This is not a rhetorical question. Last year we had gobs of candy left over, and I couldn't bring myself to throw it out -- so it went to work with my husband, who promised to share it with his colleagues (who of course all brought in their own candy). He came home every night either hyperactive or in a sugar coma. Better ideas, anyone? we don't have kids, and our dog can't eat chocolate, BTW. (I know, the ten-year-old me is amazed that I have the luxury of such a problem.....) |

What, you can't eat it? See, in my house that would never be an issue. At St. George's the kids bring in a portion of their Halloween candy to donate somewhere. I think to a shelter, but I'm not sure where. You could probably call them and ask. It's Friday night, so maybe you'll get more trick or treaters this year. If all else fails, just tell me where you live and I'll come over and polish it off for you (just kidding). |

Well, sending it to work with your husband would've been my suggestion, but here's a couple more: Take it to a business you patronize a lot (did you say you had a dog? Time to thank the vet's office)! Or, as the evening goes on, give each kid handfuls instead of one or two. Near the time you are ready to turn off the lights, dump all of the rest into any kid's sack whose parent has their head turned the other way. I'm not kidding; I've done that! I won't have that problem this year, tho. I only bough a few bags.... (for once).... |

Freeze them...frozen chocolate is the best. Or, freeze them and send them to work in January, after the holidays, when everyone is going through sugar withdrawal. |

I've also resorted to greentree's solution - much to the amazement of my last hobgoblins. Another option (if you have a lot left over) would be to drop it off at the Hillside Food Bank. |

I can't stop eating chocolate or cookies whenever they are present. I get sick or physically depressed almost every year in the first week of November from overeating the Halloween candy. Tom Reingold There is nothing

I'm going to take it to work to reward everyone who fills out an evaluation form after a training session. Even though everyone will have had lots of candy on Halloween and the weekend, by Tuesday when they're filling out that annoying form, they'll feel like they deserve it! knak |

Just leave it on Halloween night in a plastic bowl on your porch with a note that says "TAKE" or "FREE" or "GET THIS STUFF OUT OF MY HOUSE" That's what I do. There's always a bunch of ambitious trick-or-treaters, driven around in cars by their parents, that scout around like vultures looking for unfinished candy. It usually goes very fast. |

When I'm done for the night I wait for the last kid, that kid has just won the jackpot, I dump all the remaining candy in their bag. |

Tom, What does physically depressed feel like? Does the body ooze tears of sadness?

We only had 4 trick or treaters last year and returned all the unopen bags of candy. The store took them back with no problem. |

I buy mostly candy that I do NOT like. And some that I do. Then, I give out the stuff I don't like first. Leftovers I don't like go to work. Those I do like get shelved and doled out to myself and the kid over time. Spouse is amazingly good about not going for it. But really it's because she is a candy snob. Just keep her away from the Cloud Nine dark chocolate morsels! BTW, I'm so pleased that with 3 big bags of candy at home I only started breaking into one last night! (2 Reeses cups and 2 KitKats are missing.) Storing them in the basement definitely helped. Cathy |

When we decided to call it quits for the night on trick or treaters, the last group of kids arrived. I told them it was their lucky night, and as I dropped very full handfuls of candy into their bag (in my attempt to get rid of the candy so I won't eat the leftovers), one of the children looked on in amazement at how much candy I was putting in his bag and said, "I'm so glad I went to church, 'cause I'm really blessed!" A truly priceless moment. |

WE had NO candy left over... (from my post earlier in SOAPBOX): To the parents of the kids in the Black pick up truck... I hope your kids' teeth all fall out from eating all the candy they grabbed from our house tonight! There were one boy and girl in particular in that group who took WAY TOO much! I had to quit giving out treats an hour early because of your stupid fat kids!

Bring it to work and leave it near the copy machine/mailboxes....always disappears faster than I think it will. Young programmer types always seem to love it. |

We always used to send left over candy to school (Tuscan) with our son when he was younger. They had a share your candy candy drive every year for "the children who wern't able to go trick or treating themselves". Of course we always filled a huge canister with a year's supply of his favorite treats before shipping off any surplus. Does anyone know which local schools, if any, will be collecting candy leftovers this year? I've got a lot of candy left over and contributing it to kids who could enjoy it sure beats lugging it into work any day. |

Our dog found my daughter's stash and ate it all at once. He ate most of it with the wrappers, as he left "evidence" later. It made him a bit sick, not surprisingly. My daughter was very angry and upset. She saw her trick or treating as a big investment, i.e. the labor to earn the candy was big. It was a bit surprising to her to see how easy it was to buy replacements. Tom Reingold There is nothing

Tom, you're very lucky that all that happened to the dog was that he got a bit sick. Chocolate can be fatal for dogs. |
