So, we're taking the plunge & installing central A/C (getting a decent rate due to 'off season installation'). Got the company, got the financing, got the plan. Don't got a survey map. Installer tells me they won't/can't get a permit without a survey map of our property. We don't have one. But, says he, you legally should have gotten one at closing. But, says I, here is our survey; it gives measurements (as in 150' from SW corner of...), but no map. What will a map show that the survey doesn't? That the property line is 14 blades of grass away from the walkway that we removed a year ago? I call Mapleberry Town Hall, Bldg. Dept. - no, they don't have survey maps. Don't even know where to tell me to get one (maybe the County?). Left a message for Bob Mittermeir, but haven't heard back. Called the attorney who did our closing, haven't heard back. Eventually, I will reach someone. In the meantime- has anyone else had this issue? We closed on our house May 1996. Thoughts on surveys v. survey maps, permits, etc.? Thank you! |

The surveyor, usually hired by your lawyer as part of the closing process should have given you a map that looks like a sketch drawing of your property, including; structures, asphalt, easments etc. You are presented with this document usually as the closing progresses. If you didnt get one you may need to hire a land surveyor to do one for you. We just closed on our home last year and the cost was $500-$700 or so. I can give you the name of our surveyor if you'd like. |

Check with the lawyer you used for the closing. He should have a copy in his file. |
