Or puppy is chewing up the mail if he gets to it before we do...Does anyone know of a company that makes a hanging mail basket, or mail pouch you'd put below a mailslot on the inside of your door? |

There's a mail order store, called "In the Company of Dogs", that has a lot of specialty dog-related items. I think you can browse their catalog on the Internet, but I don't have one handy right now. If you google it, it should come up pretty easily. You might try PetCo to see if they have anything available, but I don't recall seeing anything like this when I was last there. How high up is your mail slot? Could you nail a wicker basket to the door to catch the mail? EXPO has a lot of wicker, as does Fran's Wicker Shop out in Rockaway (I think that's the town - out to the northwest of us). Good luck - my last dog used to love to go through the mail before we got home, too! |

the easiest solution is to buy an external mailbox and mount it next to the door and cover the mail slot with a brass or nickle plate. Are mail slots still legal? I remember reading somewhere that the USPS is not supposed to deliver mail in that manner anymore because of the possibliity of hazardous substances. |

Well, we have one and have been getting mail with no problem. Some people don't like outside mail drops because of the possibility of pilfering. I'm thinking of my own block and many of the homes have mail slots, so I don't think they've been eliminated as of yet. |

Maplewoody: Can you do something to block off the area where your mail lands after it comes through the slot so the dog can't get at it? We have a mail slot too but the mail lands in a space between an inner and an outer door so the pet can't get to it. |

I know this is going to raise a lot of problems but I have an answer to the puppy/mail fiasco. Take two fingers and smack the dog on the top of his snout. This is the way his mother would discipline him, only using her snout. He will learn pretty fast. |

Where can I sign up for some pilfering -- I have an outside mail box. Please take my Summit shopping guide, Star Ledger "extra", special coupons, and anything from citibank, chase, wells fargo, BofA that says "preapproved" on the front .... you pilferers are welcome to them. |
