No, you're stuck with Comcast unless you want to go with a dish. Sorry. R |

Oh well. Could you tell me who the dish providers are? I remember a big debate on dish vs. cable service a while back so will search the archives for their relative merits...thank you! |

We have Directv with a dish - and we're very happy. We had this before we moved to Maplewood, and the move / install was free so we kept it. At our previous address satellite was much cheaper than cable, with more channels. I think it's about even now. We haven't had any problems in the 5 years we've had the dish and couldn't be happier. you can look at www.directv.com. I know the dish network is another provider but I can't comment on them. Good Luck! |

We wanted to get a dish, but our home didn't have a clear exposure to the southwest. Trees and a ridge were in the way. Apparently they only work well with an unobstructed exposure in that direction. How's your view to the southwest? |

Hmm, I think it's clear--everything's pretty flat in our neighborhood. Directv and cable wind up being about the same price, and people seem to have nicer things to say about Directv than comcast. But Directv doesn't have a high speed internet thing as far as I can tell. Being addicted to HBO and high-speed internet service makes life so much more complicated (and expensive!) |

Directv does have something called Directwav. The equipment (includes a new dish) seemed cost prohibitive. I think when I checked about six months ago it was around $500 initial set up fees. If I find the website I'll post it. FWIW, our package is around $80/month and we pay another 49 for cable internet. |

Dish Network or DirecTv are your best alternatives to comcast. Price: Depending on your viewing preferences, there is little $$ difference between: - #1) DirecTv (TV) + Comcast (internet) or - #2) All Comcast (TV and Internet). We have comcast high-speed + DirecTv, and the total cost is $98/mo. (We get no premium channels). There are always some promos going on with both providers; so you may get a few months free here or there. Besides during a T-storm, when your D-Tv goes out (I lost mine during the 8th inning of one of the NLCS games) you can still get infotain'ed via cable. Or just read a book.

Diretway makes no sense if you can get DSL or cable modem. I think Dish Network has a deal with Earthlink for discount DSL. I looked into getting a dish but never did it. Too lazy and I don't hate comcast enough to have an ugly dish on my roof. (Esp since it would have to face the street.) |
