Are there any gay/lesbian or unmarried couples who out there can share their experience with umbrella insurance?
Our insurance agent suggested we get it when we bought our house, but when the underwriter found out that the house was co-owned by two unrelated/unmarried people(I am assured that being gay has nothing to do with it!), the policy was withdrawn. We have been looking, but can't find anyone who will write this policy for us, except for one firm who wanted to charge us THREE TIMES the original premium.

No need to start a political discussion here, because the inequity is obvious. But if you can recommend a good insurance agency that is used to dealing with gay couples, they will get our business.

Thanks.

We used Whitney Roddy in Bloomfield. We don't have umbrella, but gave another gay couple the number and I believe they were getting an umbrella policy. Give it a try. 973-743-6700.
