I am looking for bus service that runs along South Orange Ave, that would stop at Speir or Glenview -- and then into the village and IDEALLY along Irvington Ave towards Newark.

This is for my teen daughter and friends.

Does this exist? The NJ Transit web site is absolutely exasperating to try and get bus information (its reasonably good for trains)

THANK YOU

Pete

The 31 Bus runs along South Orange Avenue from Newark Penn Station to St. Barnabas Hospital/Livingston Mall. That line is not operated by NJ transit, but by One Bus Company 973-824-6200. I don't think that bus makes stops on South Orange Ave after the Village and before St. Barnabas, but I could be wrong about that.

The 107 Bus runs up Irvington Ave from NYC/Irvington Terminal and the last stop is South Orange Train Station. That bus serves South Orange hourly I believe.

Pete:

The bus which runs along SO Avenue is the 31. It is operated by a franchise, not by NJT. Therefore, I am not sure that you would find the route on the NJT web site. The main office for the bus line used to be at Dover Street and South Orange Avenue. I don't know if it is still there. The bus has several different routes. The most common goes from Penn Station, Newark to Dover Street. From Dover Street some of the buses go to Maplewood Loop via Valley Street. To get to Maplewood Village, one would get off the bus by Memorial Park and walk through the park to the Village. To get to Springfield Avenue shopping, take the bus to Millburn Avenue and Valley Street and walk east on Millburn Avenue to Springfield. Another route goes from Dover Street west to Livingston Mall via St Barnabas Hospital. The bus will stop at most corners along its route.

Hope this helps.
