I hate the Essex county golf system and am thinking about joining this club next year. I know the course isn't that great but I'd appreciate any feedback from members/former members -- was it worth the fee, were you able to get early tee times on Saturday, etc. Thanks in advance,

Paddy,

Do you know what it costs to join and what the benefits are?

Thanks.

They haven't set next year's rates yet, but I believe the cost for 03 was $1000 for the year. And that entitles you to tee times before 10:00 am and green fees are about $12. Non-members can only walk on after 10:00 am and the fees are about $35. There may be some other benefits (lockers, handicapping, tournaments, etc) but I'm not certain.

I was told to call back in January and they would have a document that stated everything.

you both might want to consider this:

http://www.foxhollowgc.com/

I get an associate membership to play during the week only, no weekends. It costs $750 and I believe that the greens fees are around $30-35. Nice course. Only about half hour away straight out on 78. First exist past 287 very close to fiddler's elbow.

Ronzio - I still have those clubs if you're interested.

Sportsnut -- Thanks for the tip. Looks really nice. Little more pricey than East Orange but the reviews I've seen for it are great. I have to do weekends though, and it looks like full members get a shot at tee times a week before before associate. But I'll check it out.

Or maybe we should all get together and buy Maplewood Country club -- I swear I never see anyone playing there.

Paddy - I was an associate member there prior to the birth of my son. Two other buddies of mine were also members and we would call on the first day to get a tee time and we never wound up teeing off later than 10 or so on the weekends. Most of the full time members play well before 10. At least that was what it was like a few years ago. Also one of the guys I generally play with signed up for privileges on the weekends and said that during this past summer if he wanted to play at around 3 pm on weekends he could generally walk up, pay his fees and walk right out.

P.S. the food is really good.
