Is there any easy way to transfer files from one PC to another without having to load them onto a disk. I have some files on my desktop which I would like loaded to my laptop. Any suggestions? |

These days email may be the best bet. Email the files to yourself & then login to the email account on the laptop and downoad the files. Some laptops have infrared ports that you can use to tranmit files wirelessly. You can always get something like Laplink, which comes with a cable to connect the 2 PCs together. Most current versions of Windows have something similar included (Direct Cable Connection) |

Do you have a network? If so you can access the files from the other computer. If you dont, you can get a wireless or wired router (very cheap) can you will be able to do it. Another option is to get a USB memory stick, save the files to it and load them to the other box. |

They are large files. I think they are too large to email. I'm trying right now but I don't think its going to work. I have a wireless network in my home but I really don't know how to use it. Also one of the laptops is for my job which I'm not quite sure I can hook up to my home network. |

You can hook the computers together with an Ethernet or USB cable. Then go to the Networking section of Control Panel and Create new connection, There is an option for Connect to another PC. You can find the cables at any computer store for under $10

Buy one of those keychain memory stick things that you plug into the USB port and download info off of one computer then plug it into the other one and transfer. My husband moves entire CADD files around that way. |

If you want to try the Laplink method, which is USB or printer port connection, I have the package. You know the number and give me a call if you want to borrow it. Later, George |

Agree with KMK ... if you have USB ports on both PCs, you can get a product from this category: http://www.compusa.com/products/products.asp?category_id=695&srch_type=catg2 You don't need software, but you may need to download drivers. It's fast easy, reusable, and fairly cheap, just get one w/the right amt of memory for your needs. Disclaimer: I don't work for, or own stock in CompUsa or any of their subsidiaries, affiliates, offshore businesses, or unnamed shell companies. |

You can't just use any ethernet cable to connect two computers directly. You need what's called a "cross-over" cable. |

Hmmm, my Mac>any ol' ethernet cable>another one of my Macs>networked via auto sensing port. Been like that for a few years now, just another reason to love a Mac. |
