Has it officially opened yet? If not, does anyone know when it will?

December 6 is the kickoff, based on the flyers around town and at the Y

Thanks, Duncan! Do you happen to know how long it runs?

Have they done anything to get rid of the stench of cat urine that assaults my nostrils every year? I love the idea of the Dickens Village but the reality turns my stomach. Sorry for the bluntness but I think it's really a shame. Where do they store the buildings off-season? I've never said anything to my kid about it but even she knows there's something amiss and backs away quickly.

The houses are stored locally while most of the decorations inside the houses are generously borrowed or donated by community members. I guess if the so-called smell bothers you there are two choices: volunteer the time as many community members do to support the Dickens Village and help clean the houses or don't go by them. I personally find them amazing. My children love to stroll around them and learn about the characters that lived in each house. I greatly appreciate all those involved in the tremendous undertaking each year. The girlscouts, boyscouts, choirs, merchants, etc. make Dickens Village come alive.

They stay up through at least new years from what I recall. Next time you are in town marian take a peek at the schedule at the post office. I have also seen it posted at the Y and other places around town.

ats3.. how does one help out with cleaning and the like. If they are still in need for this season I am, shall we say, "between gigs" and would love to help out if needed.

We love the "little houses" as my son has called them since he was a toddler. Maybe I have a bad sniffer but I've never noticed a smell. They are one of the most charming things about this town during the holidays, picture-perfect. And a kids dream...anything resembling doll houses and play houses fascinate young children. Kudos to whoever does all of that hard work, we sure appreciate it!

Thanks for the info, Duncan. BTW, really liked your Web site!

I've only been to Dickens' Village once (2 years ago) and did not notice any vile odors.

Been there 3-4 years, never smelled a thing. Kids love it. Another great thing about Maplewood. Maybe what you're smelling is from that fabulous petting zoo they have on saturdays during the season?
