I'd like a recommendation for a Maplewood or Millburn lawyer to prepare a will. |

The guys right on Ridgewood did ours ... Slingerland and Slingerland (most likely I spelled that wrong). They were great, very easy to deal with. |

Phil Stern is a Maplewood resident with offices in Millburn. Reliable, honest and reasonable. |

What's the "normal" cost to have a will prepared? |

You can get a simple will form from books in the Maplewood Library, or you can download one. Fill that out for now and follow the requirements for witness(es) and notary. Now you're basically covered. Then decide what you need in a will, how complicated your estate might be, if you want to establish any trusts, etc. Then get the appropriate lawyer--some specialize in trusts. You can also download a "Combined Advance Directive for Health Care" and put that with your will. With mine I also have a "General Power of Attorney", downloaded also. And I have a "Memorandum to my will", which is basically a letter to my executrix(es) on where all financial info. is and I attach also a copy of all items in my safe deposit box(es). It also expresses burial preferences, etc. Really not much work to put the basics in order. Go to it! |
