What exactly does the inspector look for to give a Certificate of Occupancy when you sell your house, as we currently are trying to do?

basement apartments. They inspect for proper uses I believe.

They may also require carbon monoxide detectors.

... that the house meets the town's codes. Check with your town's building inspector for a list of what is required before a building can be used legally as a residence.

Thanks. We renovated a bathroom without a permit (as we didn't move anything, just updated tile etc) and now my husband is nervous.
