Does anybody have any information concerning the possibilities of such Sears homes (built in early half of 1900s) existing in Maplewood? Would appreciate any and all info. |

This comes up about once a year here on MOL and the short answer is "maybe". Also, Sears was only one of several companies that supplied kit homes during the 1920s and 1930s. Most of the 1920s colonial revival homes were chosen from a plan book and then built by local contractors. The plan book homes and the Sears homes were very similar in appearance. Many of the components such as doors and windows were standardized, stock items and often have part numbers that can cause confusion with a true kit home. From reading on the subject, Sears marked all the joists, beams, etc. with their mark, so a little archealogical work in the basement should show if the home you are investigating is a Sears home or not. |

off hand I know there's one or two on Orchard Rd, and one or two in the Union/Hudson Ave area. They are easy to spot, once you see one you'll be able to tell.

There's one on Midland Boulevard between Richmond and Summit - a great-looking little bungalow. |

I think there's a brick one on the west side of Dunnell Road, just south of Jefferson. Dave, I'm suspicious of the "Maplewood" model you posted above -- where's the ubiquitous Maplewood Room? |

This one has a Maplewood room, but for some reason they call it a sun room. The house actually looks like a ton of houses here in town, mostly in the Tuscan and Clinto areas. http://www.searsmodernhomes.com/graphics/1927-1932/1928_p3267a-p3267b.jpg
