We've been looking through the archives for recommendations about day care, and have some questions: (1) Does anyone know about how long the wait tends to be for infant care at the YMCA? (2) Does anyone know which of the infant day care options in the area have "part time" options - preferably 2, or possibly 3 days a week? (3) Some of you have mentioned "home-based" or "family" day care - is there licensing or credentialing for such places? Other than word of mouth, is there some other way of finding out what home-based options exist in in our area? Many thanks! |

I just spoke with the woman who runs the Y and she said the following.."we have 22 babies on the list and siblings get priority (10 of them). IN April for Sept, there will be room" And the Y does allow 2,3,4,and 5 day situations. As for a listing of in home care. I dont know how one finds these out but if they are licensed they would have to follow the same guidelines that the Y or any other day care provider does. I believe for infants that ratio is 3 children to 1 provider.

Many of the family day care providers in the area are licensed, so the township may have a list. Also, some are part of a group called "Programs for Parents". Unfortunately, I don't have a number for PFP. |

Call Monday Morning Moms, which is a network of home-based daycare providers. Each daycare home pays a fee to the organization to handle the administrative aspects (insurance, licensing, etc.), so you have the advantage of a larger infrastructure overseeing the provider as well as the advantage of a small home environment for your child. |

"Programs for parents" is a subsidy program for parents of modest means. I checked out 2 of their providers and was horrified. Privateline me if you want more info. |

Psychobabbler, my older kid went through the Y, she started at 3 1/2 months and still loves going back to visit even though she is a big kid now. Our younger daughter is at the Y, she gets really excellent care. My advise is to put the baby on the waiting list long before the baby arrives.. Feel free to privateline if you want more info or call me, you have my number. |

Thanks everyone! I just called the Y to set up an appointment for a tour, and will get myself on the waitlist while I explore other options. luckily, I don't expect to need day care until September! |

September is the best time to start at the Y as that is when they switch classes. Babies start in September and stick with those teachers for 3 years until they enter preschool. We were/are very happy with this set-up. After 3 years it was a bit heart wrenching for everyone changing classes. I couldn't have been happier with my son's teachers at the Y -- especially Miss Marta and Miss Evelyn. |

There is a home on Plymouth Avenue near Maplecrest Park which has a sign (nailed to a tree near the sidewalk) indicating that daycare is provided in that home. |
