I had my left turn signal on and as I'm beginning my turn INTO MY DRIVEWAY, this guy beeps at me as he's trying to pass me on the left into on coming traffic!!! Unbelievable... I always thought the New Jersey driver thing was a myth... |

I had this exact same thing happen to me maybe a year ago. I couldn't believe it. I know that New Jersey drivers don't use their own turn signals, but do they completely ignore the signals that people do use?? |

Stop slowing down before you turn into your driveway--it's pretty obvious.

It happened to me too. I slowed and swung a little to the right before turning left into my drive. I thought he assumed I was pulling over to the right and had put my left blinker on in error. Now I realize he didn't. At the time it really startled me and I almost hit him, he even honked at me! R |

What the heck are you moving right to go left for? Sorry, sign of bad driving. (still no excuse for mr-pass-on-the-left.) |

ffof, I have a fairly narrow driveway opening and didn't want to hit the bushes or the car that was parked on that side almost abutting my drive. My curve to the R was SLIGHT, not dramatic, just enough to come at the drive in a more straight line. I'm an excellent driver, thanks. R |

Moving a little right before a left turn, or vice versa, lets you actually make a tighter turn. It's counterintuitive, but try it and you'll see. |

I have no sympathy for people who move into a house on the left side of the street and then have the audacity to complain about it!

This happened to us too. I even stopped after and checked my left indicator light was working, but now I see there's a movement that don't know how to drive. It's no myth. |

I must chime in and say that this also happened to us. We had swung to the left slightly before making the tight right turn into our driveway, with the right signal on -- and someone zipped between our car and the driveway we were about to turn into (passing us on the right). I guess he figured we had given him the space and he was damn well going to take advantage of it, RIGHT NOW. |

When people do stuff like that, I'm tempted to continue with my maneuver, so they'll hit me and it'll be their fault. The trouble is, given the fact that I have a choice of avoiding the accident, it becomes partially my fault. And who wants the hassle of a collision? So I've never given in to the temptation. But I'd like to chew someone out for such a boneheaded move some day. Oh well. It will probably never happen. Tom Reingold There is nothing

tom, I can't imagine you ever turning "a little right"!! Still, if you guys have to go right to go left then you were probably driving too close to the middle of the road to begin with(it's called being a road hog ) and I maintain that it is a sign of bed driving practice . |

First off swinging right to turn left or vice versa is not a good idea. At best you send mixed signals to the traffic behind you. Add a forgotten or malfunctioning turn signal and BAM! I posted a couple of weeks ago about a gentleman who pulled all the way to the right curb, virtually stopped and then turned left into his driveway without signaling. All in all this thread confirms something I posted earlier about being aware of what is going on behind you, as well as to the front and sides.

A little drift. I was on the street next Fleet Bank, which is a one-way. This woman was parked along the street, pulls out of her parking space and turns her car in the WRONG DIRECTION. I flagged to her that this is a one-way street, and she just nods to me that she knows. Um.....okay |

What happens when you turn right into your driveway? Do you turn left into the other lane and then back again? |
