I have discovered a few.

1. I got a wooden rocking horse for my toddler from redwagons.com. It's the same Radio Flyer one LLBean sells for $99, they had it for $67, plus I got a 10% off coupon and free shipping. It arrived today, I have to assemble it, but the worst part is that MY MOM wants to give it to the kid! Grrrrrr...

2. Zappos.com. I am totally addicted to shoes.
So is my husband. Free shipping.

3. Eshoesale.com. (and there's a link to a half off shoe site.) Free shipping on $20 or more. You might need to buy more than one pair though to reach that mark. (!!!) See #2 above.

Still lots more stuff to get, so any other website suggestions?

Shh, thanks for the websites. I too am addicted to shoes. The prices seemed a little high compared to what I'm used to paying. I got a pair of Bruno Magli on the clearance rack at Lord & Taylor for 99.00 (orig. 425.00) and last night at Macy's I got a pair of Kenneth Cole for 37.17 (orig 148.00). Both pairs plus tax, of course

Tell your husband that Macy's is having a sale where they take 65% off original price plus a coupon for an additional 15%.

We found good prices on Doc Martens and Clarks for him. Plus really funky Pro-keds I haven't seen anywhere else. Macy's always has steals, unfortunately I'm rarely w/o a child or two and it's tough to navigate the aisles there with a stroller.
I do need to get there for dress slacks for him though. That's much easier than shoes...

MOL's version of Queer Eye for the Straight Guy?

Only if you can convince him to throw away all his ratty t-shirts first! (And if you can teach him to cook anything other than French Toast...)

sierratradingpost.com => closeouts, overstock, seconds on many top quality brands. Best for sports-related.

SHH & CFA - you are on to something!!!! Shopping! Can I play????

Try www.martysshoes.com; they are associated with e-shoes, but shipping is FREE. And, if they don't fit, you can return them to any Marty's shoes, unworn.

My favorite web shopping sites are The Nature Conservancy, The Breast Cancer Fund, Doctors Without Borders, various symphony orchestras, USO Care packages, and the like.

One of my favorites is linked to adoption sites, and offers some great, unusual, reasonable gifts from all over the world: Celebrate the Child
http://www.celebratechild.com
... small silk purses, ornaments, artwork (some but not all child-oriented), books focused on culture & language.
I've also found some great books (they also have computer software, music, etc) on http://half.ebay.com - including both new & "nearly new" - I guess there's a buyer beware about all the ebay offerings, but overall seems pretty reliable.

shh,

You don't even need the Fab 5. I can do it all. The only problem is that I don't have the budget that the Fab 5 has!

Here's a sure way to get rid of those t-shirts. What you need to do is....go up to him when he's wearing one of those shirts, if there's a tiny pinhole in it, pull really hard. Now, the hole is bigger and it has to go in the trash. If there are no holes in it, make a little hole when you do the laundry. Just a little snip of a scissors will do. It works every time.

Also, I can teach him to cook fabulous meals in no time at all. I'm the male counterpart to Rachael Ray from 30 Minute Meals.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Check out Surprise.com, a directory site that does some very good narrowing down.

Greentree, the only problem with Marty's is they don't have my size. While this will probably cause CFA to howl since he seems to be in his QEFTSG mode., I am addicted to Rockport Worth Tours. :-(

CFA, the practice of shredding torn t-shirts was practiced at the college I attended many long years ago and was called "the Law of the Jungle".

http://www.bornintheussr.com

If anyone on your list is interested in Russia, culturally or politically, this kinda mom and pop web retailer is really good. Everything from the predictable nesting dolls, to wool shawls to Soviet memorabilia. T shirts, medals, you name it. It's a husband and wife (she's Russian) in Texas I think. Wonderful customer service. One year I was late, late, late and they wrapped, addressed, mailed and the whole thing. Not the most professional site in the world, but like I said, totally trustworthy and nice.

Wow! 1k, congratulations!

He was SO embarrassed when I told him about the underwear comment. But then he reminded me how he brought 15 pairs of old underwear on our honeymoon in Greece and left them in garbage cans throughout the islands. His underwear seems to come up (in conversation of course) quite a bit.

It's funny you should say that. We just returned from an 18 day cruise and we met people who said that when they cruise, they take their old underwear and then just throw them out. I think that's a great idea. I'll do that next time.

Unless of course you need to impress anyone with special underwear, I guess.

Ok, back to shopping...
