This year, parents & grandma are getting donations in their honor to pet causes. They have everything & can (& do) buy whatever they want for themselves.

Grandma- donation to buy books for the local library branch where she volunteers.
Dad & stepmom: Susan G. Koman Foundation

Letters telling them of the donation are being wrapped with an ornament.

Mother-in-law got a plane ticket to come visit for the holidays.

I go through this same thing every year with my inlaws, but if I handed them a card saying I made a donation in their name, they wouldn't know what to do with themselves.
Last year I gave them a basket with homemade vodka sauce, pasta, etc, because my m-i-l doesn't cook. I also put in a letter telling them we'd take them out for brunch so we could spend time together. We took them to Verjus in February, and it was really a nice treat after the Holidays.
This year I bought them each nice sweatsuits, and maybe we'll do the brunch thing too.

A gift you made yourself which has a special meaning for the recipient. Given your very special talent, how about a group portrait of all the kids?

Does she live locally? Last year we got my mother-in-law the 3-2-1 ticket package to the Papermill ("two tickets to three shows for one great price"). She loved it! You can also throw in a pre-show dinner.
