It is really snowing right now. I didn't know it was supposed to accumulate - it has on my lawn/deck. Son wants to drag out the sled!

Our street looks like a Christmas card already. Very pretty. Wish we had a four wheel drive car for when it REALLY snows.

It was like Maplewood was in a snow globe and it was shaken very hard. I could not even see across the street. Everything is covered in white in less that five minutes. Wow!

All gone, now. I guess that was just a wake-up call, or possibly a mass hallucination. I have a feeling we're going to get a LOT of snow this season. (But don't we say that every year?)

Just tuned up the snowthrower and dusted off the boots yesterday waiting for the big one.

Speaking of snow...and ice...We don't get any sun close to the back of our house so our deck actually still has snow on it and I was wondering if anyone knows if that Ice Melt stuff is harmful to wood. I put down rubber runners so nobody will slip but it looks like it will be icy all winter long.

Try to find an ice melting product that contains the most calcuim chloride as possible. Straight rock salt will harm wood, concrete and tile. Calcium chloride is far less damaging to walks and decks.

Sand or sawdust works well, and neither will harm your wood or plants. My dad had a table saw in his work shop that had an enclosed table underneath. Every winter we used saw dust to keep from slipping on the ice.
