Hi, I am new to the Maplewood area and is in the process of planning my daughter's 1 year old birthday party and need a little help.

Can anyone tell me if they know of an organization or business that provides entertainment for kids parties. I am specifically looking for Winnie the Pooh characters -- preferably Pooh or Tiger and also someone to make different shapes with ballons -- like animals, etc.

Any help will be highly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!!!!

GOod luck Sharina but keep in mind that a One Year old birthday party is really for the parents and their friends. The child will at least sleep through some of it and at most remember none of it.

Also one year olds might be a bit afraid of characters...a friend had a Pooh (who I would not reccommend) and my daughter, then 2, sat in my lap saying "no Pooh" the entire time. Funny to me but not to her. She still a year later gets very serious when you talk about Pooh. I think Disney can wait for us!

I agree with Duncan. We did not do a big party for our son (i.e. inviting lots of kids) till he was four and so far have not done one for our two year old. Neither seems to mind so far. Most of the ones I've been at for younger kids where there were lots of kids, esp. 1 and 2 year olds, have not seemed to be much fun for anyone, kids or adults.

Reminds me of the time we took our 2 year old to DisneyLand. One look at enormous headed Minnie Mouse and she was a shivering sobbing wreak for the day.

A one-year old isn't much bigger than a Corgi - when a 6 foot tall cartoon character with a creepy grin starts dancing around them and calling them by name (without their mouths moving) it can really freak them out.

My advice - invite all your friends and relatives that you like, order a bunch of pizzas, put the beer/champagne on ice, toast the birthday girl and congratulate yourselves that you all made it this milestone.

Perhaps provide a pretty blank book that you pass around and encourage the guests to write something about the day for your daughter to read some day.

She'll love looking at the pictures/book of her first birthday and you'll remember the great kid/adult bash you had!

Duncan is pretty much correct, but our 1 yr olds party was a blast for everyone.

We did it at our house, big subs from Millburn Deli, cake from Costco.Kids music on the stereo upstairs and adult music downstairs. We just put out every toy we had for all of the kids to play with and let them go nuts.

Strangely enough everyone, adults and kids of differing ages all enjoyed it (including my son who had a sugar high because my mom kept giving him more cake!)

His next party is at the Little Gym, and we're having Pizza.

Hi,

In answer to your original question.... My sister-in-law just used Party Magic. Their number is 800-539-8743 or www.partymagicinc.com. She has used them twice both for one year olds parties. The first time she had Clifford and for my other nephew she had Elmo and a balloon shaper person. They both were a big hit (though Clifford did scare the birthday boy a little)

It just so happens that in our family we have a very large contingent of 2-5 year olds, so even though it was a one year olds party, she needed something to entertain the slightly older kids.
