Paul Mantell, who I did Communicating Doors with earlier this fall, sent me a note saying that the production was very kid friendly and that my kid would love it. My son is almost 4. So take that FWIW as they say.

Here is what he said "So come see my show at What Exit? Theatre in Maplewood - it's a crowd pleaser, (and great for the kids, Duncan and Julian)"

What other MOL'ers are saying about Jack! (for more info, check out the post 'Fun For Kids and Adults' in the Arts section).

'We went to see "Jack!" on opening night and had a wonderful time. I encourage everyone to come out and support "What Exit?". The show was so much fun, we laughed hard and often, there were quite a few children in the audience who loved participating with the actors'
- Cookiecutter

'My seven and nine year olds were still laughing about certain scenes in Jack! even after we got home. They say that they want to go to another panto next year. (It was well done and a good time for adults too)'
- LAH

I have been to every performance (yes, I am the costumer) and children as young as 2 and up - through the ages middle school/high school - are loving this show. Even the parents are enjoying it. Read the wonderful info that KMK posted to find out more about 'Panto's', a peculiar British form of theatre geared toward the whole family. The response opening weekend was overwhelmingly positive.

Hope to see more of y'all there,
jml

Hi all! I'm the artistic director of this show
(posting under Laura's name) and I'd like to tell you why we decided to do a panto. Brian, my husband and the writer and director of this, go to London almost every year to see theatre. We saw two pantos, one of Cinderella and one of Romeo and Juliet (it had a happy ending) and just had a blast. So we decided to do one here. Check out today's article in the News Record and it will hopefully (I haven't gotten the paper yet) explain a little bit more. This particular story of Jack is quite wonderful and clever and the kids and adults are loving it. I wanted to do something that everyone would enjoy together for the holidays, not just something the parents could sit through to humor their children. I've seen this several times and it's never boring because it's different every night, because the audience is different every night and they're such a big part of the show. I hope you'll all come out and see it. If it does well, we'll make it a tradition with a different story every year, just like they do in London. See you at the theatre!

Bev

I've been hearing lots of raves from everyone I know who has seen it. We got reservations for the final performance on the 28th.

I'm still wiping off my mascara marks from all the laughing I did last night....I took 3 ten year olds, a seven year old and a 4 year old. All six of us laughed out loud! I can't wait to see next year's production.

I went the other night with my Australian friend, I'm from England and we both grew up in the UK and Oz with pantomimes at Christmastime.

I can honestly say it was a lot of fun; the character playing Jack's mother stole the show and was like a red-haired version of Dame Edna Everidge! (We were fooled - we thought he was an Aussie and he's from Georgia, USA!). Beanie had a good London accent too.

Most of the children sat next to the stage and they had a wonderful time (they loved the pantomime horse) and quickly caught on that they/we were invited to participate...lots of giggles and laughter for all.

As (sheltered; never before seen panto) Americans, our family had never seen such a production until last weekend. Parents and 9 y/o enjoyed it thoroughly AND some of the humor has lasted in the household. A highlight today: getting dressed in his long johns to go to a football game, with an audience, the kid said somethng smart (wish I could remember) and performed Jack's knee-slap. Parents fell out....

I'd rate this production as something for 3 to
x-ty three!
