Seriously. Do you now get a medal for incompetence?

I really can't think of a single reason why this guy deserves anything.

Well, aren't you being a little unfair to Mr. Tenet?

After all, did he screw up more than General Franks, who told the President that he could declare "Mission Accomplished" a year and a half ago? Or more than Paul Bremer, who took charge in Iraq and thought it would be a terrific idea to disband the whole existing army, and let those guys loose to join the insurgents?

It does make one shake one's head in disbelief, I grant you that.

I guess I figured if not for Tenet's "slam dunk," Franks and Bremer never would have gone to Iraq. In my mind that makes him more culpable.

I agree the other guys are at least as incompetent, but Bremer and Franks at least showed some courage by going to Iraq. Tenet never had to leave the safety of Washington to earn his award.

although we're in total agreement with the "shake one's head in disbelief part."

It's times like this when I feel like we've really gone through the looking glass and entered a parallel universe. In our former reality (pre-Bush), these guys would have had to retire in disgrace. BUT NOOOOO! Not in today's reality. Now these guys actually get the NATION'S HIGHEST CIVILIAN HONOR!

It's now time for The Onion to go out of business, because they can't top this story with parody. It's completely parody-proof.

Following a great tradition--think of the chestful of hardware the Soviet commisars used to sprout. Goes hand-in-hand with the Bush approach to reality--if you say something over and over, people will start to believe you, no matter how wrong you are. And it seems to work. War is Peace. Incompetence is bravery.

Maybe this is Bush's way of saying "okay, now just don't write a tell-all book about me."

This has to be a first. . . I am in complete agreement with everything that has been said on this thread. And I'm a republican.

In honor of the holiday season, I wanted to start a thread that would bring together all people, regardless of their political philosophies.

So this is Christmas...

Not a Repub or Demo issue. Like Monica's liquid protein diet, when it is wrong you got to call it that way, regardless of partisan feelings. You can still support W while saying his administration up Iraq completely, even if you agree with his original decision to invade.

(please note I do not mean to imply that Monicagate was anywhere near the problem that Iraq is. As the bumper stickers say, when Clinton lied at least no one died).

Yasser Arafat got a Nobel peace prize.

Tenet and Bremer get the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

Sounds like both awards have been made worthless by the politicians who hand them out.
