Here at my office, I have received four bottles of wine and one bottle of champagne this week for the holidays.
Not bad so far.
Hic-cup.

I work with economists who are, by nature, cheap for a company that does not believe in accepting gifts from vendors, because of appearance of being bought.

So, nada, personally, although my VP is sharing the wealth - she gave me a giant poinsetta plant this morning. That, of course, is because her dog would eat it if she took it home.

For the really good stuff, you gotta hang with marketing people.

Government employee. We are not allowed to receive gifts. Even exchange of gifts between co-workers is frowned upon.

Lame corporate gifts:
1. Logoed heavy duty luggage tag (why would I put a logo from another company on my luggage?)
2. Ugly leather small cosmetic (?) bag
3. Swiss chocolates in the shape of cones of yarn on a shipping pallette (winner so far).

A few years ago a client of my husband's gave him a Tiffany paperweight. (I have no idea why, he worked in a sound studio and barely had a desk.) He promptly returned it and gave me the credit and I got a nice silver ring for $250. That was cool.

One of my graphics consultants got me a candle and a $100 amex gift check - the same exact things I got her. This was a first!
I also received more candles, homemade brownies, and a relaxation aromatherapy spa kit, but still waiting for more booze since I'm having a Christmas Eve party. MOL donations are welcome! :-)

I have gotten nothing.
I dont rate.....YET

Wait thats not true, I was given a sideline ticket to a Giants/Steelers Game and a ticket to a an event at the New School where I got to schmooze some cool people like Sen. Bob Kerrey, Tim Roth, Randy Quaid, Estelle Parsons, and my personal WOW Arthur Penn.

SO I guess I get to go places not get things.
and thats good with me.

I like experiences alot, and since I don't drink, the only thing I could do with booze is regift it to mem

Duncan,
I am in marketing communications, and also in a very employee friendly environment. Though we have people of all backgrounds, they all like the holidays around here.
Anyway, how about I trade you my tiffany pen and relaxation aromatherapy kit for some bottles of booze?
Cheers!

I used to do better when I was on the client side of the business. Now that I'm on the supplier side, we do the gifting instead of the receiving.

We sent TV set-shaped cookie jars filled with cookies this year.

But I've done OK on the receiving end -- no complaints. Got a big reindeer box filled with Mrs. Fields' cookies, and a nice bottle of port. Both should come in handy on Christmas Eve.

Retch! I just got an awful fanny pack with a vendor's logo (eliz - got the picture).
Also chocolate covered pretzels and cookies. I will NEVER lose those pounds in time for New Year's.

My group books millions of dollars worth of contracts with all the major hotel chains, so we usually make out OK, but this year the gifts seem kind of sparse for everyone except the head of our group. In addition to 4 VERY nice holiday luncheons and dinners, so far:

Skagen watch
Nice silver picture frame
Gund teddy bear
Cutter & Buck leather folio
White House Christmas tree ornament
Several nice pens
Christmas stocking filled with old time candy

The big ticket comes in early spring when, for some reason, all the hotel chains have dinners followed by a broadway play. I guess they wait to tally up the contracts and see who gave them the most business at the end of the year!

There definitely are some nice perks to my job!

And by the way, mem, I usually get a bottle of wine or two every time I have a conference, and I'm not a big wine drinker...

that aromatherapy kit sounds mighty nice...

A fruit basket, sent by one of the people with whom my husband does business. The grapes were really good. A calendar from my dentist. For the rest, we do the gifting. this year it was pens with our company name on them.

OK, I moved Phil's post from last year here because

a) I want to know who the hell the guy is (Phil never answered);
b) I wanted to embarrass Phil for not following up and
c) See a)

I got a donation made in my name to God's Love We Deliver from a freelancer who works with us (nice!);

some lovely "hold everything" -type storage baskets from a coworker (who probably thinks I am a slob, but what the heck);

Some cash in an envelope from our parent company (the gift that keeps on giving -- it went to our babysitter, cleaning lady, and garbage collectors);

surprisingly, no wine, chocolates, cookies, pens, ornaments or watches.

I could use a watch, but can't say I've missed out on any of the others.

Dave, I'm pretty sure it's an old German movie, but I've been banging my head on the wall now for half an hour and can't come up with it.
I thought it was 'Die Feuerzangenbowle', but by now I'm pretty sure it isn't. Phil? Where are you?

So far so good:

1. My manager and his wife have a vineyard, got a bottle of their best (we'll see) wine.

2. Other co-worker's a part owner of a cigar company so I bagged a few nicely rolled stogies.

3. Also won an Ipod at the Co. Christmas party.

No complaints.

I'm my only co-worker & boss, but I've made out nicely so far - gave myself a great espresso machine (Nespresso - uses capsules, of which I ordered many varieties to try) - now I just have to make sure that I don't drink so much espresso that I'm too jittery to make more! I'm thinking of giving myself some bonus money in a card too...
But seriously, I got a lovely gift basket & it's contents will make a great Christmas morning breakfast!

Work:
I got gilmore girls season 2 on DVD from the executive I worked with for the past three months - before passing her off last friday to a new assistant.
A pretty little butterfly (earring?) holder from a co-worker and some chocolates from another co-worker.
Personally:
Got boyfriends gift in the mail (he moved to FL) we were supposed to have a giving limit and he apparently went over - a PRAGUE full length Wool Coat

I am the proud new owner of an Ipod, thanks to my new boss. Now I have to figure out how the darn thing works. It a bit framistanish to me.
