Are there any on this board? I come on here looking for valid arguments from the other side yet rarely find any. I have family members who are conservative and can stick up for their opinions very well... cannot any Republican on here do the same? |

Your thread title is provocative, but rather empty. Anyway, it's still your serve. You have to get one over the net before anyone can hit it back to you. |

I've tried quite a few times to get into it but all I get is someone replying "boring," or something like that. You want to debate something? Iraq war? |

Matthew: the conservatives on this board don't debate, support their president in deed or words, or otherwise do anything in the real world (can I suggest enlisting?) that shows they are real supporters of the cause. They do, however, like to speak ill of democrats and liberals. They really are nothing more than mindless cheerleaders.

Matthew, The problem on both sides is that there is so much vitriol and stereotyping, that no rational person would want to debate here. RL lumps all Conservatives here together as mindless cheerleaders (or worse). Straw calls all liberals dumb (or worse). People allow themselves to get baited into personal attacks. This is not a debate, it's a playground argument, where being right isn't as important as being loud and shouting down the other side, or getting in that one good zinger, whether it makes sense or not. MOL is not the place for serious debate. But if you like a good foodfight, it's a great place to visit. |

Chris, I rarely debate. I go more for the zingers. They just end up taking more than one line. And when I do debate, I never claim to be rational. [I was going to write "I am the sole voice of reason here" but then thought better of it and the above came out] |

That's OK. And I love the zingers. Especially the really good ones. |

Come on now. The premise of this thread is baloney. Without going into names there are a number of conservative posters on this board who have demonstrated intelligence in their posts. I may disagree with them on a majority of issues, but that doesn't make them unintelligent or even unprincipled. It's a simple case that we disagree. I'm not so arrogant to think that I'm right all of the time nor incapable of learning something from someone with whom I disagree. |

I agree with Joe. Cjc and Michael Janay and sportsnut are just a few of the more prolific right-leaning guys around here who are quite competent in defending their opinions. They are just as likely as any lefties around here to have links or quotations to support their arguments, and they are no more likely to hit below the belt than most of the people that... well, that I tend to agree with. In fact, the only reason I engage in debate (or argument) with them is because I can tell that they are good guys who actually want many of the same fundamental things that I do -- they just disagree with me on how to get there. Eventually, if we can't turn them into liberals, we will just have to kidnap them and perform extensive brainwashing. I'll PL my fellow lefties about it later. |

Notehead, I'm disappointed that my lack of prolificness (is that a word?) led to my being left off your list of intelligent conservative posters. From now on I'll choose my battles less wisely and simply post as frequently as possible. ;) |
