Economy Grows Faster Than Thought in 3Q

http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story2&u=/ap/20041222/ap_on_bi_go_ec_fi/ec onomy

"The economy headed into the end of the year with good momentum, expanding at an annual rate of 4 percent in the third quarter, a faster clip than previously thought.

The new reading on the gross domestic product, released Wednesday by the Commerce Department, exceeded the previous estimate of a 3.9 percent growth rate for the July-to-September quarter. It marked the best showing since the opening quarter of this year and was up from a 3.3 percent pace in the second quarter."

To many, the key indicator is jobs, but it does seem that the economy is getting stronger. Good to see, if it's true.

It's still a fragile market.

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Consumers kept a closer eye on their wallets as they moved into the holiday shopping season, boosting their spending by a modest 0.2 percent in November.

True, and the December numbers are really going to be telling. We'll see how much we really opened our wallets this month. It's scary how much retailers depend on the holiday season (ok, Christmas) for so much of their overall revenue.

Initial anecdotal reports have been less than stellar, but as we saw with the election, early results can be deceiving.

I was unemployed for five months. I got a job last month, I'm now getting emails from headhunters. I take this as a good sign.

Congratulations on the job, Tom.

I know so many people, including my husband, who have had similar experiences at other times. When it rains it pours.
