Duncan's movie is the short film (10 minutes) entitled "The Reader", is in English and was shot here in Maplewood. He's our special guest at a regular monthly series of screenings I call Friday Night at the Movies Modern. This month's regular full length feature from Film Movement is in Portuguese with English subtitles and is entitled "The Middle of the World". It is about an hour and a half long so we'll be done before 10 pm. We have a good sound system(new) and project the films on a screen. I started this out at Main Library last year, but Memorial Hall is being renovated so we moved to Hilton for the Fall. We'll be going back to Main Library in February. We always show a short and a full length film which come from our subscription to Film Movement. This is part of our library budget and includes screening rights for these specific films. These films are not rated, are usually okay for teens, are mostly really good films of a variety of styles and from all over the world so only about half are in English, the others subtitles. Duncan's film is in English (I think I said that) and shown by his permission only. It's also a first for us, but I would be happy to screen other local film makers' work if they're interested. Please call me. 973-762-1688 Does that help? R

Ok to Sweeten the deal I will hand out Tootsie Rolls to anyone who asks a question.

even if the question is just, "can I have a tootsie roll?"

Me and Dates. Maybe thats why I had such a hard time getting any dates in high school. I would show up on the wrong night. Yikes. Thanks for the heads up. That is the problem (and the blessing) of back to back screenings.

No the Hilton Library screening is TONIGHT FRIDAY JANUARY 7TH AT 7:15 with a little talk back after the film. A tootsie roll for every question.

Sorry for the confusion guys. Tomorrow nights screening is at the club El Flamingo and is an entirely seperate event. I could only do so much poster work when the font problem arose :-(

see you tonight at the library.

Well, I can't read and we got there in time to watch Dunc pass out Tootsie Rolls. After rushing TS out the door (don't take your coat off, it starts at 7:30!), we missed the short film.

Still, I have managed to convinced her that we should now go try Burnett BBQ for dinner. It's probably closed....

FWIW, the audience seemed like they enjoyed Duncan's film.

In all seriousness. Thank you to all that came and supported my efforts. I genuinely appreciate them. I learned alot watching that film again with an audience. And can do some more tweaking tonight and tomorrow before the Club El Flamingo party tomorrow night.

There will be another screening of it in Maplewood.....someday

Duncan,
I goofed. I went to the main library and figured I must have gotten the date wrong. Well, at least I don't have your problem with dates. Locations on the other hand clearly are a weakness for me. Good luck tonight. Hopefully I'll catcht next showing in town.

The film was great, and I got 3 tootsies and coffee with the filmmaker afterward. I feel so special.

I just want to close by saying thanks to Duncan for showing his short film at the library on Friday night. We had a really good turnout and the response to "The Reader" was quite positive I thought. I have been approached by another local person in this industry and hope to have a similar night again soon. I'll let you know when. In the meantime, February's film in our regular series would be a great one for teens or anyone interested in filmmaking. It's entitles "Buddy" and will be aired at the Main Library on February 11, 7:30PM. I'll post a synopsis on the MOL calendar tomorrow, don't have it with me at home. Thanks again Duncan, it was a great evening. Becky

Thank you Becky, both for the opportunity and the kind words. It was a good experience for me to see in a friendly atmosphere.
I will keep everyone posted on its festival progress.
thanks again, and I would suggest having a conversation with Bennett Lieber if you want to make it a monthly event to show a short from a local filmmaker before each feature. He created the Goat Short Film Festival and was the screener of all the submissions, so he will have a ready list of good films of the appropriate length and sensibility. PL me if you want to make contact with him.

Again, thanks for the opportunity.
