Hubby and I are expecting our first baby in May, and are hoping to get in one last trip as a couple before I get too big to travel, without breaking the bank; apparently, this whole baby thing can get pretty darn expensive! Any suggestions for a warm weather getaway sometime in January or February, maybe three of four nights for ~$1,000 or less including lodging & transportation? I'm thinking maybe Florida, Puerto Rico, Bahamas, but any and all ideas would be greatly appreciated!!!! |

Wherever you go, go! Definitely do that one big last trip before baby is born. You will always remember it fondly. I remember going to San Francisco when I was five months pregnant with my first child...we stayed in a fabulously trendy boutique hotel, rented a BMW Z3 convertible, drove down Rt 1 as far as Santa Barbara, threw our cares to the wind, and returned ready for car seats, teddy bears and all other things baby... |

I don't have any suggestions for deals, but just be wary about getting too good a deal. Lots of deals out there because of the devastating hurricanes. Before committing to a deal poke around of the Fodors.com forums. There's so much great info to be had there. Good luck. |

My pregnant vacation was to Miami and the Keys. We had fun, he drank a lot and I watched. We stayed in SoBe w/ a bunch of friends, went to see the Jet/Dolphin game and then drove out to the Keys for a few days. |

My pregnant vacation was to Quebec. It was Memorial Day weekend, perfect time to go, as I was due July 5. We walked miles and miles the night we arrived and feasted on mussels, then I took a warm bath in our B&B. The next morning I woke up and my water broke. Had mi petit quebequiose that night, ended up having to rent a room for two weeks while she was in the NICU. It was quite memorable. (I recommend going away before you're 30 weeks.) |

Looks like there are some good deals on travelzoo, though lots of the best are in the Dominican Republic and I've heard they're having hepatitis issues there, probably not a good thing to risk during pregnancy. I don't know much about Florida, any suggestions for good resort towns there? I loved Key West when I went there in college, but found their beaches to be disappointing, would really love to find some place with a good beach, sandy and with clear Caribbean-like water . . . |

Sanibel Island, FL may be a good choice. The beaches there are much nicer than the Keys. (We went to Paris for a week when I was 5 mo pregnant with our first. Had a kidney stone and the only way the doctor would let me out of the hospital in time to go was to promise to drink a liter of water an hour. Needless to say, I know all the public restrooms in Paris! Can't see another European trip in the near future w/the 2 little ones....) |

my pregnant vaca (I had many ) but the first was to Alta, Utah skiing at 5 mos. I would sleep in, meet hubby at the restaurant on the mountain, ski two runs and then have a beer! 2nd vaca was to New Orleans - also fun but couldn't drink quite as much as I wanted. 3rd vaca - hmmm, don't think there was one 4th vaca, hmmm, not that one either.... Once the peanuts get older though, get grandma to stay and definitely go on kidless vaca's regularly. |

Thanks for all your suggestions, and thanks especially for sharing all your preggo vacation stories, I got a real kick out of them! Hopefully I won't have an experience like Shh, that's way too scary for me! So I think we're going to focus on Puerto Rico at this point, possibly the island of Vieques; will start a new thread to see if anyone has any feedback on places to stay there. The Bahamas came close, lots of good deals available, but I'm really worried about the weather there in February, seeing as they're fairly far north . . . |

Gee... this thread almost makes me want to be pregnant. I never realized the perqs. I know about the "pushing gift" (my sis-in-law got a helluva rock for the twins) but I didn't know about the vacation! If I could get the vacation, the gift & a 24 hour nanny, I'd think about it.... Congrats, Amandacat! |

Do take a look at this website: http://www.site59.com It's a website for last minute getaways (to depart from as soon as in 3 hours time to a fortnight's (14 days) time. You can travel from Newark and choose how many days you want to go for and have a choice of destinations (US, Canada, Caribbean etc.) beach vacations, city breaks, hotels, airlines and car rental if you wish. They often have some amazing deals going so it's worth checking it out. I went to Aruba with them last September with my daughter...$650 each for two of us for six nights including flights from EWR. |

I'll definitely keep site59 in mind for future trips (if there are any future trips!), but for this one we've decided to go with Vieques; bought our plane tickets last night. Thanks again for all your help and input, everybody! |
