Obviously, I'm even more dense today than usual. I take it you're saying that this group, should it get off the ground, has the potential to bog down the local government. Do I get it yet?

Anyone who wants more information regarding this organization should post their questions here and/or send Dan a PL requesting additional information and/or attend a meeting and see for yourself. It is a little hard to support or attack an organization if you don't have all the facts regarding its agenda.

My guess is that the agenda of this new organization is still being determined and will be influenced considerably by those who attend and participate in the first few meetings.

Dave: The direction this thread is taking is more appropriate to soapbox or better yet all politics soapbox. The all politics regulars would prbably appreciate getting in on this discussion.

Dearest Soda,

I have no problem with the group or their objectives. I simply pointed out that ONE of their objectives doesn't seem to be beneficial locally (in any way): disrupting the inauguration.

I'd bet (without parsing Dan's words all that seriously) that "Anti-inauguration activities" means nothing more aggressive than "not one damn dime day", but we shall see...

-s.

BTW: If Dan's proves to be a dangerous crazy, I'm sure Art will beat the living crap out of him, just as an excercise of 1st amendment rights...

Hey - long as this group hates Bush, how bad can it be for you folks? But if they sing "Kum Bye Yah", does that count as a religious endorsement? If so, may want to be a bit wary.

sbenois: Funny you should ask. The Oracle took a vacation in NYC this past August, and I took this photo of him:

I think he's aware by now.

BTW: Not my style...

Joan: How do you always manage to stay so rational?

Everyone else: Isn't Joan right?

Isn't this America? If someone wants to form a left-wing activist group or a right-wing activist group or a bicyclists club or a Paris Hilton Fan Club or the Committee for the Abolition of Cell Phones, don't they have that right?

Sben,
Hopefully, if these types are busy protesting against the inaugeration, they won't try to mess with the good things the TC is trying to do. Word is there's a wild eyed activist throwing weight around town claiming that developing SA is going to "ruin Maplewood." Ugh.

Well in all fairness, I have no issues at all with what this group is trying to accomplish. They're really just a bunch of neighbors trying to organize into something that they think will do some good. Some of it I find to be rather worthy.

But I do think that they've got to define a more consistent mission statement so that those who might consider joining will have a better understanding of whether they're on the same wave length - be it left or right or center.

Maplewood Idol... there you go!

OK Tom, Joan gets my vote. She is always the voice of reason. I can't say I always agree with her, and given the way this thread is heading, it's beginning to look like I don't agree with anyone else on this subject either...

BTW, I just found out tonight that next Tuesday night is our Rotary Holiday Party at 6:30PM at Cafe Arugula. I will try to drop by to the meeting for a few minutes, but I doubt it. I suspect our dinner won't be done until after 9PM...

Dan, how long do you expect your meeting to go on, and are you printing up an agenda?

Well, even if I miss this one I'm sure we haven't heard the last of this group. Plus I bet Soda will fill us all in on how the meeting goes anyway. Won't you pal?

Nope. Show up or shut up, Pal.

BTW:If you did RSVP, maybe Dan will send you the minutes...or not.

I like Joan but she's a tad overrated. She says things from time to time that are hardly rational. Also, No offense, but anyone and everyone who posts regularly on MOL HAS A SCREW LOOSE anyway.

You're right Straw, some of this stuff is getting to be too much. I need some time off to tighten my screws...
