I am in SO and looking to start an informal weekend riding group for A and B road rides or intermediate level MTB riding.

Ideally early morning starts 6-7am, preferably when temperatures are over 30F.

I am also interested in any recommended routes for road rides out of SO or Maplewood that are relatively traffic-free and over decent roads.

If you are interested give me a call at (973) 615 2965 and if you have recommendations, post them here.

Thanks for your help.

Mike

High Gear Cyclery recently took over the bike shop in Millburn and will be posting/hosting rides come Springtime. I agree that the best time to ride is early and hopefully there will be a group that wants to head out before the typical 8 am group.

There is a loose group that heads out of the bikeshop now (wx permitting) at 7 am. Too dark to go any earlier. Avg 17 to 18 mph.

There are a couple of road routes that are nice. One takes you down Meisel, through Echo Lake Park, up into the Watchung Reservation and then back through Summit. 1 1/2 hours.

The other one takes you out through Chatham and then you have your choice to head towards Meyersville and the Swamp or out to Green Village and beyond. 2+ hours here.

Mountain biking at Lewis Morris in Morristown.
Not legal up in South Mountain.

Bike paths along the NJ side of the Delaware River, Frenchtown to Lambertville, also paths along the PA side. Even though Hurricane Ivan did come through, the paths have been restored and it's still good biking. Go west on 78 to 31 south to Flemington, rotary to 29 west out of Flemington to Frenchtown. 29 south runs along the Delaware Canal State/National Park.
