The Maplewood Historic Preservation Commission will hold a training session this Saturday, January 8 at 11 a.m. for volunteers who want to participate in the field work for an architectural survey of the town. Those already involved are encouraged to come to discuss the progress of their work. The location will be the recreation building on Dunnell Road in Memorial Park. The architectural survey will start with some o the oldest areas of Maplewood, including Valley St., Prospect St. and Boyden Ave., but will eventually include all of the town, in order to understand the historical development of the community. On Saturday, volunteers will learn how to describe buildings using the correct architectural terms and styles. After they have completed the training, the volunteers will be assigned to specific areas to create descriptions of the buildings. Short histories will also be created for each site. This will be a multi-year project and will require the help of many volunteers. If you are interested in joining the team of volunteers, please come this Saturday. No previous experience is required.
