I like all the Red Stripe ads (and I liked this one too) but in this particular ad, the Red Strip spokesman (the black guy) hands the beer to the white guy and says' Red Stripe, helping our white friends dance for seventy years' Don't get me wrong, I thought it was a funny ad but it surprised me because I feel like if the roles were reversed it would have been deemed offensive or stereo typical and blah, blah, blah |

Oh enough! Our history of black (African American) people has a strong legacy of dance and percussion music. White Europeons can claim ownership of the Polka and Lemon Curd. It's not racist, it's diversity, Deal with it Dude.

Aquaman, Care to explain the "Cable" commercial? Seen it? Two R&B singers warbling at a piano about... "Cable! Cay-ay-ay-bull" |

It's not racist, it's diversity, Deal with it Dude. Read my post again. I didn't say it bothered me, I thought it was funny. I just said it seemed like the type of comment that would not be so well received if the jibe was from a white guy and aimed at the black guy.

Commercial sounds funny as hell. Maybe it is only racist if it is a "hurtful" stereotype, but that obviously can differ by person. Probably is a double standard, but who cares. People get too sensitive over words. |

Dytonk, The cable commercial you mention offends me deeply. The ad I do like is the one where a guy is running down the street and he smashes into a stuffed deer and wrestles with the stiff artificial deer and then they cut to a picture of a live deer running away and the voiceover reminds you that it could be a real deer while the guy looks hither and non (with jazz hands outstretched) for more deer, that cracks me up. Think it's for Geico. If I weren't so lazy I would move to another state and sign up w/ Geico. |

They balanced the R&B Cable commercial with an inter-racial diversified a capella group singing about cable. I just saw it last night. Both commercials are incredibly stupid. |

Everyone should sit back and watch re-runs of All in the family I do every chance I get!!! The episode with Sammy Davis Jr is hilarious! I think the difference is that Archie is always the one that looked bad when he opened his mouth and I don't think he was ever malicious. The name Bunker is actually a contraction of the French name Bon Cour which means 'Good Heart'and I think it gave a subtle insight by Norman Lear into Archie. I think Archie was basically a good guy just mis-informed. |

I suppose it might be racist if it was written by black people. Who wants to bet the only black person involved in the ad was the actor? |

Of course it's a double standard, but so what? When one of the two groups being portrayed (the one poking fun)is historically perceieved as the underclass, we tolerate the jibe (and we should). I don't know if Red Stripe will help you dance better, but I do know it will help you think that you are dancing better. My medicine for helping me under these circumstances is the Domincan Presidente. Three of them and I'm giving merengue lessons in the backyard!! |

We should tolerate the 'jibe' if one class is historically perceived as the underclassm, and so (the reasoning being extended here) we should tolerate stereotypical shots taken at jews because they are perceived to be powerful. And if cry foul, those cries can be dismissed. |

no, I think we can tolerate "jibes" if the target isn't offended by it. any white people out there offended by the Red Stripe ads? show of hands? |

Red Strpe ad ok with me. I have a huge beef with Cracker Jacks though. Little white sailor with his dog on the box. If this does not smack of racism I don't know what does. crunch 'n munch proves that one can enjoy a peanut, popcorn, and carmel snack food without attaching sick racial stereotypes.

It just goes to show how people are such watchdogs for anything that sniffs of racism. Unfortunately, the targets chosen are so ridiculous while the manifestations of racism in this country are so ubiquitous in this country yet so invisible that no one seems to notice. |
