I need to find a caterer for a party. There will be 20-30 people. We were thinking about heavy appetizers or possibly a big breakfast at midnight. Just something to soak up the booze. What are the best places in SO/M to do this? The party will be from 8pm – 1am, and all the attendees will be between 23 – 35. Also about how much should this cost per person? Thanks

New World Catering is an option. I had a party and got trays of food from Church's Kitchen and that was a big hit. |

When you got the trays of food did you just heat them up in the oven and then put them out? Seems like the easyest way do save some cash. Do you have websites of any of these places?

With Church's they delivered the food hot and I just put it out. I got 100 pieces of fried chicken, 6 full racks of ribs, mac and cheese, chicken nuggets (there were kids there), and corn bread. This was for about 100 people and I had trays of sloppy joes from Town Hall also. I bought about 10 tubs of wet naps -- sticky messy ribs. Church's Kitchen in in Union or Vauxhall -- realy nice nice people. The mac and cheese would have been the only thing that would have "lost something" if it got too cold but it was gobbled up so fast there was no chance of that! |

I found the website for New World, and I’m not to sure that this crowd is that sophisticated. Most of them just graduated this (last) year, and have been living on a steady diet of ramen noodles. One of their options: Seared Rare _Conservation_ Grass-fed Beef, Watercress & Gorgonzola Roulades tomatillos $36. Would be great for me, but the crowd may be more keen on White Castle burgers.

Brett - Ellen from New World will work with you and prepare just about anything you want. She catered a baby shower for me... food was fab! I'll also second Algebra's recommendation for Church's - great down-home eats... maybe more in line with the crowd you're expecting. |

Jessie at Heart and Soul does catering too. Great guy and the best ribs I've ever had. http://www.heartandsoulrestaurant.com/645628.html |

Highly recommend Resevoir - they provide trays with the bunsen burner set up, a lot of choices (my favorites: eggplant rollatini and penne with vodka sauce) delicious and the price is great... |

mem, Do you think that 9pm is an OK time for them? Also do they serve more appetizer type food, we don't really have the room (or tables) for people to sit while they eat |

Not sure about the appetizers - you may want to use Ellen at New World - you can get a tray of those little rolled up wrap sandwiches that would be easy to eat. |

Nope.... Ellen is at New World. I read in another thread that Celebrated is closed for renovations. By the way, I've also been happy with Village Trattoria. Angelo will work with you to plan a menu with something for everyone. |

Ellen Shapiro is New World Catering, Ellen and Chris (husband & wife) are Celebrated Food. Rumor has it however that Ellen and Chris have sold the business once again - thus the 'closed for renovations' talk |

it sounds like you are little bit younger...Ellen at New World is definitely a good option...they just got a new chef and I hear that the food is pretty good...I was at a New Years cocktail party that was catered by the guys that were at Celebrated last year...you know, the guys that were there the last time that it was sold...anyway, it was really creative, the staff was young and good-looking...might be a nice option. I'm sure that I could find their card...David Ellis rings a bell |

celebrated has closed it's doors for ala carte service(restaurant) but, they are still operating as a caterer. Ive just finished booking a mitzvah with them. they're food is always as creative or conservative as you want it to be. I've had them do four parties in the last four years and have always been beyond happy with them. Ellen at celebrated is the greatest. |

the # at the restaurant was cut off by mistake, it should be operable in a day or two. you will be able to contact them a 973-762-1722 soon. they will not be running the italian place. |

Another Italian place...... we need that about as much as we need another nail salon. I'll miss their wonderfully inventive salads and the scones. |

Stubelou - If the person you booked catering with is no longer the owner of Celebrated what kitchen will the miztvah be coming out of? Please be careful that they have found a commercial (i.e. inspected) kitchen to work out of and that it is not coming out of someones home. I'm sure it will all be ok, but I would hate for anyone to have problems with such an important event! |
