I've never had Cold Stone and I'm looking forward to trying it.

I do think Howard that you seem to be more focused on telling people they should like your product instead of taking customer advice to heart. Obviously your store must be doing something right if it has lines around the block. But to become so defensive if people don't like your product (or even just the available sizes) doesn't seem like a very customer-focused response.

To Alg's point...on Weight Watchers 1/2 cup of ice cream is a portion. If I want to treat myself to premium ice cream, or have my 4 year old (who can't eat that much) get her own cup, I would like the option of getting a smaller size than 6 oz.

Look forward to trying your ice cream (I am a mix-in-aholic). Oh and if you ever want to hold an ice cream taste test with the other stores in the area, I'd be happy to participate.

Howard,
the key word is value-
because to many folks, Edy's (or whatever) might not be as good, but at 1/3 your price is a better value than Cold Stone - you're just not close to three times better.
just my preference.

But again, to each his own- glad you're doing well.

Howard,

That is too small for a large size...I don't eat ice cream instead of dinner (and can't handle that large a shot of lactose!)

We go to you occasionally, but honestly, I prefer places where I don't have to negotiate a share with my husband and/or daughter, neither of whom really share my tastes in ice cream.

Glad you are doing well, but not likely to become frequent customers under the current arrangements. Let us know if you come up with solutions for the rest of us.

I always order a small and eat about half of it - keep the rest in the freezer. It's good for quite a while without getting freezer burn or a funky taste to it. While I would also prefer a smaller size to begin with, I really don't mind saving some for later.

Also, something tells me that since this is a chain the sizes and prices are controlled elsewhere, though I could be wrong.

I'm laughing at Ashear's plug for Mack's (which is what Emacks is now called.)

It's become something of a joke for those of us who live in Millburn, because the ice cream is just so darn awful. Even Shop Rite's own is better than what they serve there. (I'm talking about the one on the corner of Millburn Ave & Main St. - not the one in Short Hills across from Wine Library)

Local prediction is that the new Cold Stone (which the entire Copperfield clan loves, btw, Howard) will be jammed continuously, with lines around the block, and since it's a small store, Mack's will pick up quite a bit of the overflow, especially since they have seating, thus allowing them to stay in business a bit longer.

As for the large sizes @ CSC- we usually bring it home and save half, or, if we're in the store, split one between 2 or 3 people. Paying a dollar or two more for CSC is a small indulgence I'll gladly make.

i think that stone cold's lines can be partially attributed to the extra long time it takes to put together the order. no?

Turkey Hill's Creamy Commotions (or is it Concoctions?) line has a Moose Tracks flavor - any comments?

i find the long lines are definantly from the slow service. I like Cold Stone's product but everytime I go in there it takes for ever even if there is no line. They never have lids or bags or something you need. Their sizing is very inconsistant and their product is overpriced.

to be fair, often the "slowness" is attributed to the customers who can't decide what they want

Going slightly off topic....my husband came back from Walgreen's last night and I spotted him eating some ice-cream which he'd just bought in there...so I had a taste.

It was the Walgreen's own brand (I didn't know they even had their own brand) called "Scoops - Totally Toffee"....toffee (aka caramel)ice cream with toffee cake and candy crunch.

It is absolutely delicious! Yum, yum, yum.Probably the best flavoured ice-cream I've ever tasted in the US (it's similar to Thornton's 'Toffee Apple' flavour in the UK). I forgot to ask him if it's available in larger sizes as he'd bought the 1 pint size.

It's pushed Haagen Daz 'Dulce tres leches' three milk cakes into second place LOL!

Maggie Moos is second rate compared to CSC. If you don't like CSC - don't go. You can always get a kids cup. Just the right amount. The kids that work there are pleasant, work fairly fast for teenagers and are always willing to stay past closing for real fans. Carvel in Millburn was always the best. Too bad the landlord got so greedy. Nothing will ever match Grunings. The Top of course.

My opinion is that CSC is a great idea, (although not original) with average execution. Their ice cream is not great, but the taste and consistency is hidden by the mix-in ingredients. I think it is gummy, probably an additive to keep it together during and after the mix-in process.

Macks in Milburn is okay, but nothing like the real Emack & Bolio’s from Boston which now has stores in NYC and other cities.

Howard - or anyone else - does CSC carry frozen yogurt or sorbet? (lactose intolerant, but can eat those!) If yes, what flavors?

Goldy - yes, they have sorbet... not sure about the yogurt. I think I saw raspberry when we were there this week, but I was too focused on Chocolate to notice anything else.

Just a few doors down from Cold Stone... visit Cait & Abby's.. while their cakes cost more than, say, COSTCO - for a special occasion, they can't be beat.

Speaking of Whole Foods and Ice Cream - I'm partial to their Soy Delicious "ice cream" that they carry. I stay away from the ones loaded with extra stuff because it's not really that much better for you than regular ice cream, but the regular chocolate, espresso, carob mint and tiger chai flavors are absolutely yummy, low in calories and fat. I don't even buy "real" ice cream to keep in my house any more - my freezer's full of pints of this stuff instead.

I love Cait & Abbey's cakes, but I also wouldn't underestimate the quality of Costco cakes, especially when you're feeding a large crowd. It's not your typical supermarket cake.
