What is up with the elevator? It has been out of service since it went into service. Such a waste! I was soo excited since it is perfect on a bad-asthma day but alas, I have as of yet to use it. |

The town is working on the problem and the elevator should be up and running by the spring of 2008, if there are no problems along the way. |

As I understand it, the town will begin by shooting down several proposals about fixing it. This will be followed by about a year of no activity. As the pressure builds the BOT will begin accepting plans on fixing the elevator. After a long process including much discussion and much money spent the town will choose a plan to go with. Only after signing the contract will they discover that their payment only covers the company looking at the elevator. At this time a resident will hire a local electrician to do the work at night. Four hours after work begins the problem will be fixed. The town will then sue the resident in an attempt to recoup some moneys lost. The elevator will be sealed off as evidence. |

No it's New Jersey Transit not the town. You need to make jokes about leaves on the rails and stuff. Not sure which "the" elevator you're talking about, since there's more than one. I assume it's the one on the center platform.

NJ Transit did post something about the elevator and at a recent BOT meeting a representative tried to explain the situation. I have an official copy if anyone wants me to email it to them. The bottomline is NJ Transit says it will be operational by the end of this month. |

Thanks! Can they also do something (like a fake camera) for the people who seem to like to use it as a potty at night? not the actual elevator but the little cubby it is in.

Elevator repairs have been completed. Not sure if the inspection was done yet but as soon as that takes place it will be operational again.

An oil tank was discovered in the elevator, so construction has been pushed back. |

My father and stepmother are coming to see my daughter at the MMS play on Friday evening. Can they take the elevator at the SO train station? If not, I'll have to tell them to ride to Summit. |

Isn't the Maplewood stop at ground level? |

Yes, but on the arriving side, you have to go under the tracks and back up to the platform. I suppose they could depart from Maplewood but not arrive there. |

Hey Tom. According to this: http://www.njtransit.com/sa_construction_advisory.jsp?ID=1268 the inbound elevator is in service but not the outbuound, which is the one you really need. Your best bet may be to have them go to Summit and pick them up. |

Thanks, A. I'll do that. I guess it's going to take a while to excavate that oil tank. |

BOTH elevators working just fine! (for at least a week or so) (so, you can take the train to/from SO -- but still ned to go to Maplewood to see a movie or show!) /p |

NJT station elevators have a nasty habit of going out of service just when you need them. I would strongly suggest checking with NJT as to the condition of the needed elevator at the South Orange train station as close to their departure time as possible. I don't know if elevator service information is posted on the NJT website but you can always try calling the customer service number, which is printed in the train schedule. |
