Yes I went there, thinking that maybe this time be it would be different, (NOT). I have been there three times in the last week trying to get some help in buying kitchen cabinets and have left there each time bewildered. I had to play ring around the aisle to catch someone's eye to even ask a question and was always given the pat answer "this is not my dept". What ever happened to CUSTOMER SERVICE ?. And to make matters worse the manager informed me that the Lowe's (at the old Bradlees site)is not coming. Rte.22 no better. I'm mad as HELL. Is this just a local issue or is it the same in surrounding towns? |

I hear your pain, we went to Home Depot Expo last night to finalize an order for blinds and after about 1/2 hour of waiting for her to change and update the order, she claimed she didn't know how and we should come back when the manager is there. I was stunned. |

zolla try the Home Depot on Rt 22 near the TJ Max. They are 1,000 times better. I have been there twice and have had great experiences both times. |

I believe that HD suggests making an appointment when buying/planning a kitchen. I would call. Our experience has been that the store on Route 10 in East Hanover is much better than either of the Union stores. |

Home Depot used to boast a policy that they will never claim "not my department." Do they still? About a year ago, there was a long thread, complaining about the Vauxhall Home Depot. The initiator printed the thread out and brought it to the manager. Maybe he also sent it to HQ. I don't remember clearly. In any case, we got promises for improvement. We haven't received. The problem is deeply rooted in that place. They are not interested in satisfying customers. They prefer to wipe their hands quickly with, "I don't know and I don't know who knows." |

Go to East Hanover (Route 10). My brother's a contractor and he use to use the Union Store. He finally got fed up with them a few years ago and hasn't been back since. |

At least the SA store brightened up the lighting and (I think) painted the floors. The place looks a little brighter and cleaner these days. Now if they'd only lose that Nathan's... |

We used Expo when we renovated 2 bathrooms a couple of years ago. The whole process was a total nightmare, Our consultant ordered twice as much tile as we neede for one bath room and we were about 20% on the other one. When I went to return my overage, they told me no returns. I always waited for hours there, The service was horrible and none of the employees knew anything. I would never go back there again. |

There is a small Home Depot on South Avenue in Cranford. It is more like a very large hardware store, and does not carry lumber, etc. They do have kitchen stuff (cabinets, countertops, etc.) I have been helped right away with good service there (for a countertop) on two occasions. |

About 2 years ago I went to HD on Springfield Ave for mums...as in chrysanthemums..... Noone knewwhat they were. Certainly not the garden dept., then anyone else for that matter. I called the manager and of course he said next time I come in I should ask for him, blah, blah, etc. I don't like it there at all but it is close by. I decided to use it only fo rsomething I can take from a shelf. Anything requiring more contact I would go elsewhere. Tabby |

The Lowe's isn't coming? =-( Did he say why? The lack of progress lately on the Bradlees site seemed like a bad sign. Such a bummer. |

Kitchen Expo on the Rt. 22 island is fabulous (and shares a parking lot with the most wonderful diner). See Danielle - she's great to work with from the largest to the smallest budget. Sears Hardware in Essex Green is a good alternative to HD. I go to Home Despot about once a year. A few months ago, I needed a simple lamp shade, right off the shelf. No such thing at HD, of course. Long story short, after much agita at the cash register and waiting 20 minutes for a manager who never showed up, I ended up calling the store from my cell phone and demanding to speak with a manager. That got attention, but why did it have to come to that? |

I travel down to Woodbridge to Lowe's now - don't even bother with Home Depot unless I need something small. I was just at Lowe's on Saturday. There really is no comparison, people are nice and knowledgeable, the merchandise is such a step up from Home Depot. Just take the GSP down to exit 130, take the 9 Northbound, right at the first set of lights, pass the Woodbridge Mall and Lowe's is up on your left hand side in the Wegman's Mall. It's a bit of a hike but worth it if you ask me. |

The last time we had a negative HD discussion like this, I sent a letter to the President along with copies of the comments and a link to the site. With most companies that at least gets a polite response--with HD, nothing. Even with Verizon Wireless someone at the President's office once called me to follow-up, and they are no paragon of customer service virtue. This HD fish is rotting from the head down. |

Mark-You want rotten ?, try negotiating a transportation contract with them. They only believe in them making a profit for themselves, their vendors are lucky to just talk to them and should provide services for free. |

To be fair, I've been to the home depots on rt. 10, rt. 22, and one in Norwalk CT. I had good experiences at all of them. Helpful salespeople, etc. The fact is that the Vauxhall Home Depot just sucks. It's a staffing problem. |

It's definitely a staffing problem when the staff don't know who else works there. I was in the electrical department one time at the VauxHall store, asking an orange-aproned employee for help. She gave me the 'not my dept line and pointed to someone else down the aisle to help me...who turned out to be a customer! |

I started a thread last year on Home Depot, got tons of responses, printed it out and sent it to the president. They wrote back, made promises, service improved slightly for a month or two, and then back to horrible again. Forget that place. |

Agreed. The Home Depot on Springfield is terrible. Every time I used to go there, I got atrocious service. Their staff is the worst of any store I have ever dealt with. The one on route 10 is much better. Common problem with HD's: They come into town, kill all the competition, drive all the local hardware stores out of business, and when they have a monopoly, cut staffing. When you're a monopoly, you can tell the customer to take a hike. Look at Microsoft. |

When I go to Home Depot on VauxHall, I have very low expectations with staff. I have been helped here and there since coming to this store. In other words, it's a crapshoot. |

I was just in Florida and had to go to HD there... What a wonderful experience it was! English speaking sales associates, everyone helpful and smiling, I asked someone stocking a shelf where the Aluminum duct tape was, and he stopped what he was doing and took me all the way across the store to the exact aisle and shelf where I found what I needed. Then I bought a new microwave and the cashier sent someone out to my car to help me load it in even though I said I could handle it... She said "its no problem, we're here to help" I almost fell over. I did fall over when the guy who loaded the microwave in to my car wouldn't take a tip. He said it was his job to help, and thanked me for offering. CUstomer service isn't dead, its dead HERE in NJ! |

I go to the HD in Union pretty regulary, but never with the intention of getting help from anybody - only to buy stuff I'm familiar with and can find on my own. If I need advice I'll go to the ace hardware store over on Freeman Street in Orange (just off Valley). There are usually a couple guys there that are happy to chat about whatever, give advice, help you find stuff. A good old school hardware store I wish we had in SO/M. Or something like Sid's in Brooklyn. |

The HD on Rt 22 in the Watchung plaza is pretty good. I go that plaza regularly because it's great -- it's also got a Target, a huge clean Stop n Shop, a Borders, and DSW for shoe fixes. |
