A friend is coming with her 2 children (6 and 10) and wanted a recommendation for a hotel near Central Park. I said I'd ask all of you. Any recommendation for a mid-range (what does that mean?) hotel? thanks,

Try the Excelsior Hotel on West 81st. They may be booked up, but its a great location and a good price. Right across from both the planetarium and CPW.

Mayflower on CPW and 62ndish is OK. My parents have stayed there and thought it was fine. On 55th and 6th -- 4 blocks from the park is the Warwick which is about the same, maybe a little nicer.

I don't think the Mayflower is there anymore. They were tearing it down sometime last year.
