Still looking into our tenth anniversary weekend. Been going back and forth and I think we decided to do three nights at a Spa. I found several within a few hours upstate NY that look nice. Anyone been to: Emerson Inn & Spa (near Woodstock) Mirbeau Spa (Fingerlakes Region) The Copperhood Inn & Spa (near Woodstock) New Age Health Spa (Catskills) The first three are preferred because we can actually drink real coffee and wine. New Age is more of a true health spa, no caffeine or alcohol allowed, though they seem to have more fitness classes, and a family member who went there loved it. (She's AA and had a thermos of coffee in her car which she drank for 2 days.) I guess there's also Canyon Ranch in MA and the Norwich Inn. Any firsthand experience or info is welcomed! |

Have friends who were just at Emerson a couple of weeks ago. They said the rooms were great, food was great, but that there wasn't much to do, esp. if your husband isn't into the whole "spa" aspect. Bottom line, if you're someone who needs "activities" or such in the area, sounds like this is not the place. I will repeat my earlier suggestion of Mohonk (which, incidentally, is constructing a spa and fitness center---but in the meantime, there massage/spa offerings seem quite good). Good luck choosing, and have fun.

Thanks Mwoodwalk. We actually did book the Emerson. My husband is into taking yoga and other classes, (maybe a massage too) and we can hike, bike, etc. They seem to have everything. Between breakfast, afternoon tea and dinner, and enjoying the facilities we'll be pretty busy. Plus, Woodstock is really close if we decide to leave the premises. One reason I chose Emerson is because it combined everything I was looking for: full spa facilities, luxury, good food and wine, and not too far. My initial reaction was that it was a little too luxurious (at least cost-wise) but I decided we're only going to celebrate our tenth anniversary once, so we might as well live it up. I'll definitely report back in early May! |

Enjoy it! I had a baby right before our 10th so I am still waiting for that romantic weekend. Maybe for the 20th? |

Hank: Have you thought of Gurney's?. It's an inn, a spa, and an oceanfront resort. It's located in a very special place (Montauk, NY), proximal to (but very different from) the spiffy Hamptons, and a great place to really get away from it all. Check it out... www.gurneys-inn.com -s. BTW: |

Does Soda think Hank & I are celebrating our tenth anniversary? And you're correct Hank, we will be visiting an artist who looms socks with hemp. I'm having a pair custom made for the occasion! |

Montauk will have to be another time. This one's booked already (for spring, not winter). Hank, I didn't act horrified, just got a chuckle out of it. (As I'm sure you did too.) |
