I'm getting more and more annoyed with the Government of Indonesia dictating conditions to those countries sending aid. First, it was no help from Israel at all. Then, Israelis are permitted if they are not military personnel. Now U.S. Marines must respond without any weapons and sleep at sea each night instead of on Indonesian soil. And, all foreign rescue personnel must be gone by March 1st. All of this because Indonesia fears reprisals from their militant Muslim factions (one Govt. official has already been kidnapped). Enough!

If this besieged nation is going to question every "life preserver" thrown to its aid, maybe the responding nations should focus on the areas where the need is just as great and there are no "conditions". I think Indonesia has a lot of balls placing its people in jeopardy for the sake of petty politics- maybe they should confront their militant factions and let the rescuers rescue.

Our military personnel are already facing enough danger without being thrown into an unfriendly territory with no weapons to protect themselves.

I think it was Sri Lanka that refused entry to IDF personnel.

I have thought the same about Indonesia. I read an article where the insurgents were involved in the rescue effort, even to the point of the government flying them into the devestated area. I do worry about the rescue workers, inclduing the Marines.
