Real dumb question... Law & Order... Was I just not paying attention, or was it a surprise to everyone that she was a lesbian?

I Tivo-ed Law and Order. Will pay closer attention when I watch it for this line. But I do remember it being hinted at in the past one of the lawyers was a lesbian.

It was very weird the way it was handled. Her boss accuses her of being too emotional to be a prosecutor, tells her she is a great lawyer but needs to be on the side of the poor and downtrodden, and then fires her. Out of nowhere, she says, is it because I am a lesbian? He mumbles, no, of course not, no. She sort of smiles, looks down, sort of waters up, and the show ends. Bang, just like that, she is out (literally) and gone.

Next week they start with a new, brunette, somewhat more buxom ADA who, presumably, is colder and less compassionate than those pesky liberal lesbians.

It's amazing to me how many beautiful blondes there are in law enforcement, both lawyers and cops.

Yeah, it surprised me too.

I agree, it was a dumb way to write her off.

About to watch it now.

I wonder how they're going to write Jerry O out of Law and Order? On Law and Order there are just as many dark haired cops and lawyers as blondes.

I saw it too and was surprised, to say the least. It didn't add much, just made me wish she wasn't leaving the show.

It didn't add anything at all. I couldn't believe they even through that in there. If it were a case about gays, maybe, if it had been an issue before, maybe, but out of nowhere?

It was a cheap write in for shock value.

L&O jumped the shark with that one.

I havent watched the show lately, but was the disclosure maybe a response to the fact that for awhile Sam Waterston's character seemed to be sleeping with some of his assistant DA's? Has that happened in recent years even?

LESBIAN:
I know! My mother and I were watching it together and we're like ....uh, did we miss something? Plus, the writing and acting was so bad. Like, uh, is this because I'm gay? No no, of course not. Oh, ok (puts head down) : DICK WOLF.
What the hell?
The writing on L&O is usually top knotch, so I would have thought this was leading up to something else - but then there was that commercial with the new DA. So, I have no idea. Any L&O obsessed people know of any episodes where this was mentioned? I don't see every one.

JERRY ORBACH:
Just The Aunt, Orbach left the show last season to star on a spin-off -- of which they only taped a few episodes.

It's so sad about him. Great actor, filled my childhood memories. My mom saw him at Sloan Kettering about a year and a half ago when she was going for her treatment.

I am so glad that Serena is gone! Elisabeth Rohm made that show unwatchable for me. She is a horrible actress. Don't know how she lasted as long as she did.}

Of course, shoshannah, that begs the question:
who WAS your favorite ADA?
Mine was Angie Harmon/Abbie Carmichael

Oh and my favorite co detective to the ever-present and ever-popular Lennie Briscoe? Benjamin Bratt!

Pippi, I haven't watched from the beginning so I don't know all the ADAs. I did like Stephanie March on SVU, and I also think Christopher Meloni (Eliot) does a fantastic job in his role.

The best ADA was Jill Hennessey. I HATED Angie Harmon. And I liked Chris Noth a lot too.

Loved Chris Noth. Angie Harmon seemed a bit young for the job for me, then I got used to her. I did also get used to Ben Bratt but it took awhile. (I guess I'm not good with transitions.) Haven't watched it in years though. And Hank, good for Sam W. I liked the fact I felt sort of uncomfortable with him and (I guess it was) Angie Harmon.
Hey Pippi, I danced with Chris Meloni at the Oz wrap party a few years back.

The best ADA was Robbinette.

He was smart, tough, ethical, strong.

He was even great in his return appearance.

As for the chicks, Angie Harmon hands down... its too bad Crossing Jordan sucks so bad.

Who remember's Michael Moriarty's character, Ben Stone? Much more softspoken than McCoy, but it didn't subtract from the toughness.

The best detective combination was Orbach and Bratt, hands down.

Ben Stone only had one emotion, disgust. Never smiled. Never got angry. Never got sad. Just disgust, cynicism, and sarcasm. My kind of guy.

Never really liked Jill Hennessey -- I don't know why. But I did like Cary Lowell. Chris Noth was pretty good too - but now he's just "Mr Big" to me - but that's another thread...

Was Robinette the black guy who was with Ben Stone? Every time I see a repeat of the Ben Stone years I am reminded how darn long the show has been on! Or who was the guy before Jerry Orbach - was it Paul Sorvino? Those episodes are soooo old!
I admit I only watch the show in reruns and never during primetime, so I am a few years behind....so I have no opinion of Dennis Farina.

shh- you DID? he's so cute

Cary Lowell was the best hands down. Jill Hennessey was always fetching coffee for people - she never had any backbone!

A bit off topic - I just watched a million episodes of CSI (all 3 cities) on a plane. Don't know how old the episodes were (never really watch it) but I did recall that all the female investigators had long, mid-back hair, which blew around fetchingly and never got in the way as they did their work. Oh, and the one chick on Miami who wears really skimpy tank tops and has more cleavage than Anna Nicole?

Liked the show, but let's pretend to be a little bit realistic....

So that's why she always looked familiar to me! I really like Van Buren too; one of the reasons is because my high school was Martin Van Buren.

And my all time favorite -- Vincent Donofrio, L&O Criminal Intent.
