You're in bed with a cold. They're both on at the same time.
Which will it be?

O Brother..
Its when I first noticed Clooney could act.
and that soundtrack.........
also watch the bonus track about how the Coen brothers washed the color out of the film to really give it a timely feel. Its fascinating what todays technology can do.

Gopher??

Soundtrack is great, Clooney was great. But I fell asleep about 3/4 way in, and the hubster thought it was terrible.

Still quote Fargo on a regular basis though.

Fargo.

O Brother for the Music (if I'm too sick to put on glasses) Fargo to make me feel "better".....my foot with a sock on it is still attached to my body!

What about Blood Simple? That one will get you jumping right out of bed and it has great views of Austin.

Folks the other Coen brother films you mention all have their merits, especially Blood Simple. But the question was O Brother VS Fargo.

Between those two... O Brother.

" You two are just dumber than a bag of hammers."- second favorite line from that film.

Fargo.

O Brother.. tried ably, but for me all of the biblical and mythical allegory didn't come together. Points for ambition, but it didn't achieve the sense or meaning it set out to.
And frankly, I thought Clooney stuck out like a sore thumb-- it was as if he was in a different movie.
Some great performances though -- and we still play that great soundtrack.

Fargo better as a complete film beginning to middle to end.

Wow, based on this thread, I guess I have to re-watch O Brother. Loved Fargo! But ...um...fell asleep on the couch while watching O Brother. Not for lack of interest, lack of sleep.
adding to the NetFlix queue....

How about Barton Fink??

WHAT?!

Fargo is one of my all-time favorite movies. O Brother was eye (and ear) candy. Loved watching it, but it is by no means great storytelling.

Monty and Drew--you said it perfectly for me.

Watched Fargo with my ex-stepmother-in-law who was from a farming community in Illinois, and I lived in Madison, WI for years. We agreed: Fargo absolutely NAILED that certain Midwestern je ne sais quois (and the accents were spot on). Oh Brother tried hard to translate the Odyssey into American terms, but never really pulled it all together (still an enjoyable watch, though).

O Brother was great. There was just one great scene after another. I don't own any DVDs, but when I do cave in and actually buy a few, O Brother will probably be the first, or maybe the Hudsucker Proxy.

Liked both but O Brother gets the nod because of the music.

When my son asks me, "Why do I have to do that ?", I say, "Because I'm the Pater Familias". Loved that line, my son doesn't.

Well, if I'm sick in bed, Fargo is easier. A snowy Sunday afternoon when I'm feeling fine? Oh Brother.

Love them both; depends on the mood.

Fargo, without question. I am a huge Coen brothers fan and rate this movie at the very top. Sometimes their films have patchy spots or rough spots, either in a transition or parts that just don't work. I think Fargo is their best film. I also love one that has gotten pretty bad notices generally: The Hudsucker Proxy and will take that over Brother and Big Lebowski

Yah, that's a good one.....

Lazily and sniffle-ly switch back and forth with the remote, of course. Stop and savor when the mood strikes.

Play the soundtrack when the eyes start smarting.

cynicalgirl, Raising Arizona is one of my all time favorite movies. Hilarious. Although I've recommended to many people who hadn't a clue what I found funny about it.

"Hy, I'm talking about wife swapping!!!"

If it was between those two, I would go for Fargo. I just think it's a better all around Film.
