Donnie Darko was pretty cool. I rented that and ghost world at the same time. Kind of a cool combo.

Best rent we did w/ no expectations: About Schmidt.

Check out rottentomatoes.com. A great site, worth navigating about in, to give you ideas about movies in theaters and rentals.

We just rented the movie Hero. It was great if you like foreign films. It along the lines of Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. We also watched Troy this weekend. Kind of on the long side, but I actually liked it more than I thought I would. Watched Collateral and King Arthur last weekend and liked them both.

Can you tell we use Netflix??

This is an old one, but we rented "Close Encounters of the Third Kind", which was great. Even our demanding teenagers liked it and its efx, which they thought were impressive even by today's standards.

Just watched Northfork and loved it, not sure why. Not for everybody but then again one of my favorite films was Wings of Desire.

Netflix now wants me to share my picks with my friends. I guess this seems like a good idea. Any thoughts?

Frequency (2000) with Dennis Quaid and Jim Caviezel. Described as "A young police officer is able to communicate with his deceased father via an old radio."

Recently rented "SUPERSIZE ME": Funny and horrifying. Did you know that there are 83 McDonalds on just the island of Manhattan?( = 4 per sq mile.)
(ok, now I'm hungry).

I second Napoleon Dynamite.
Faves:
The Princess Bride, Silverado, if you can find them.
I do a netflix kind of thing with Blockbuster. It's great. $9.95 a month and you always have a movie to watch. My cue looks like this:

On The Waterfront
Cool Hand Luke
The Seven Samurai
Ray
42nd Street
City of God
Cellular

I'd never rent those movies if I didn't subscribe to this service.

Jeff,

Princess Bride is a good choice..quirky and funny.

In the "wow, that was a weird movie" category try "Memento" or "Identity"

There really is only one movie to rent... 'Army of Darkness' is quite possibly the greatest film ever made

It is 'Evil' It's actually the third cult-classic installment of the 'Evil Dead' trilogy. It's a wacky/silly B type horror/comedy/action movie by Sam Raimi (Spider-Man, Xena) starring Bruce Campbell and it's just a brilliant campy, tongue-in-cheek fun/scary movie that I think everyone should see.

Most die hard fans will tell you to watch Evil Dead and Evil Dead 2 but I like this one the best,

Check out IMDB for more info :-)
