Anyone know why the Amazing Savings (just west of Livingston Circle, in the same building as Party City) on Route 10 in East Hanover is closing?? Is it the whole chain? Several locations, or just this one? Saw no signage on the building about the closing, but saw several people on Route 10 today holding "AMAZING SAVINGS - Store closing - Everything must go" signs - At first I thought they were picketers - but while waiting in traffic , I could read what the sign said. |

It's all of them. They declared bankruptcy, and the whole chain will be going out of business in 7-8 weeks. I was in the one on rt. 22 last night as everyone was marking things down, and they'd all just found out about it themselves that morning. A guy helped me carry a few things to my car and he said he'd been there longer than anyone, and he could only speculate that it was too much aggressive advertising. (Somehow i suspect it was more than that.) This makes me so sad. My dad used to bring home amazing finds from Odd Job all the time when i was little. And when i started living/working in NY and going to Odd Job myself, i felt so grown up. I've hit on a few really awesome finds there. =-( |

me too, papayagirl... I once bought multiple copies of American Girls collection books (Welcome to ___ World) for $3 (for my school library) . Have also bought Harry Potter and Dr Seuss items, again for my school library. I can never leave there without buying something... will now have to make a point of visiting soon (I couldn't even get into the parking lot today!), especially to stock up on those foil pans! That's too bad about them closing. Other than Big Lots (which is a bit too spacious for me!), are there any other closeout type places around here? |

A few years ago, i picked up a Nightmare Before Christmas snow globe for my husband at Odd Job for $13.99. I got back to my desk and looked for it online because it was in a box from the Disney Store, and i found that they originally sold for $55 a few years prior, but they were then selling on ebay for $150-200 each. I scouted out almost all of the Odd Jobs in the city after that, and was able to find 5 more. The store where i bought the first one told me a guy bought 25 of them right before me. Big Lots is the only other one i know. I never really took advantage of it, but i'll have to embrace it now. Oh, and National Wholesale Liquidators, which is right next to the Amazing Savings on 22. Not quite as fun, but it'll have to do. |

I'd visit Big Lots when I needed to visit Hammett's Learning World - but now that Hammetts is closing - I guess Big Lots will become its own shopping destination. |

Damn, I loved Amazing Savings. Bought a bunch of comfy "moon" chairs for my office at school for only $20 bucks each! The kids love 'em. They were $50 at Target and maybe even more at K-Mart. I hate NWL, rarely find anything there. Big Lots has some fun surprises but Amazing Savings has much more interesting stuff and new stock constantly. BTW, the IKEA sale is BIG and ends on Monday.
