My SUV was dented yesterday by a King's cart (by Mapleleap Dine between 5:00 - 7:00 pm). Although I didn't see if happen the corner of the King's cart aligns very close to a very visible and expensive dent on my car. Judging by the dent, the cart was probably moving very fast. The cart was also laying on its side on the sidewalk.

It probably was the result of some careless King's shopper leaving the cart free to slide down that little on the sidewalk.

Has this happened to anyone else?
Is King's indirectly responsible?

Maplewood libs have been caught denting "gas guzzling" SUV's before. Chances are your car was targeted .

I saw a story on the local news a few weeks ago about the same situation, but it was a Home Depot parking lot on Long Island. The store claimed they were not responsible (although in the end they did pay for the repairs). I think businesses are afraid of being scammed by dishonest people who want to repair a dent or ding in their car.

And Strawberry, your comment is unfair. Many of the people you characterize as "libs" drive SUVs themselves.

How ironic is that. One of the reasons I choose my SUV was because it had the same MPG as many mid-size sedans: 19/24 mpg. The main reasons were safety in general and being able to safely travel in snow. I was thinking about taking care of my family as well as trying to balance out other concerns. It's tough living in the real world when extremists run rampant; if indeed that happened.

The "gas guzzlers" get 15/19 or worse in my book.

I wasn't going to mention this earlier. But I also thought it could have been kids playing with a cart that got out of control. I could almost have understood that. But now, I'm very dissapointed to hear that it could have been deliberate by a fellow Maplewood "citizen". I'm ashamed to think that I may have to report this to the police now.

By the way, does anyone have or knows of anyone who has used a dent repair tool/kit (i.e. Dent King that repairs dents from King's carts)?

My dent does have some paint damage; if that makes a difference.

Dpasc, since you're a relatively new poster, you can't be expected to appreciate Strawberry's brand of "humor". Chances are more likely that it was a careless shopper who didn't return the cart when s/he was done with it.

do you have a Kerry sticker on your bumper? If so, it may have been one of the rabid righties exercising their freedom of speech and ramming home their message.

Check with Joe Amon, Store manager w/ Kings. I'm sure that they will cover the costs.

Hank Zona,

No I didn't have a Kerry sticker. All I have is an American Flag on one of my windshields.

Also, I did speak with Joe Amon the store manager today. He asked me to stop by tomorrow. THX Njphilf.

I used to work at a supermarket... and we had a funny form we'd fill have the customer fill out when this happened... and basically there was no way to fill out the form without basically saying and signing to the fact that the cart hitting your car was anything but an act of god. I think your options were "wind blew cart" "cart moved on its own" "didn't see it" and then at the end "store employee hit my car with a cart". The store would then send the customer a letter stating that they were not liable for acts of god, like wind, and would only pay if a store employee intentionally hit your car with the cart.

Now what employee would intentionally do that? LOL Probably the same kid I fired for hooking the front hoops of shopping carts onto people's trailer hitches... very amusing to see a shopping cart going that kind of speed out of the lot...

My little 1992 Honda Civic (her name is Olive) wears her dents like battle scars. I didn't learn to drive until we moved out here & she's got the scrapes to prove it. Now, hubbin' tells me I can't get a new car until I've done damage to every panel.

Guess I'll be parking by King's more often.....especially on windy days.......

Dpasc ,

To bad you didn't see the customer who carelessly left that cart there. They could be responsible for the damage. I remember in a court case a customer carelessly left a shopping cart in a parking lot, the wind blew and it hit a car. Luckly, the owner of the car witness this. Because there was a cart bin/rack nearby, the customer failed to bring the cart there and thats why they were held responsible.

I had something similar happen ( not Kings) -- filled out all the forms, etc. Bottom line -- unless you actually saw it happen, I think you'll be out of luck getting it covered by the store.

In terms of the dent repair options -- those franchise operations do a great job -- but if there is paint damage, then I think you're best off going to a regular body shop.

Sorry -- and good luck

Pete

SoOrLady: Perhaps you could enlighten us new posters as to exactly what type of humor you are referring to, in regards to Strawberry.

While your at it, can you tell us a little something about local_1_crew too?

Thanks
