Post your name and email address here or email me: dbacharach@gmail.com if you'd like a gmail account free.

I'll take the first four who are interested.

You can only get an email account from someone who already has an account. They've been available for sale on ebay for awhile.

Google is beta testing an e-mail program which uses a discussion thread format in which related e-mails are listed as a discussion thread, much like the threads here on the MOL discussion board. They also have a search feature which lets you locate an individual e-mail by entering a search word or phrase.

According to my in-box, I have six invites to distribute. Send me a private line (be sure to include a valid e-mail address since I don't think invites can be sent through private line) if you are interested and if I can figure out how to do so, I will gladly send invites to the first six people who respond.

There is no need to pay for an invite on ebay.

How does one get all these invites to send ? Is it based on the number of emails you send usually?

I've been using it for a couple of days; so far it's ok--visually confusing actually, and not sure that th add'l benefits make a whole big difference, or that it's the next email idiom.
But I'll give it a good try.

I've been using Gmail for 3 months or so and absolutely LOVE it. I've already used and appreciated the search feature and starred mail feature and have the Gmail Notifier installed in my home and work computer. I disagree on it being visually confusing, I think the set up is great. I also have some invites available - they keep giving me more. I suppose it's the only way they can market their "product" right now since you can't just go to a website and sign up.

My only complaint about it is that you can't compose and email and THEN go to your Contact List to fill in who to send it to, you have to pick the email addresses first. Unless I just haven't figured out how to do that, which is quite possible.

OK, I've been trying it since yesterday. It's weird, but I am getting to like it quickly. I'm still not sure if I'll totally switch, but I see there are lots of possibilities.

And I have three invites available, for whatever they're worth.

The bet part of gmail is gDrive. (http://www.viksoe.dk/code/gmail.htm)

In short it turns your gmail account into a virtual Drive. You can drag and drop folders, files, what ever to get stored in your gmail account.

My GF and I both hook our machines to it and swap music all the time.

Holy cow, this is amazing.

Can I look at my gmail drive from the email interface?

I've been doing something like this, saving drafts to my IMAP server and attaching files to the drafts. But this is very nice.

I've never tried, but we have forwarded the emails to other people and the file comes in as an attachment.

Is there anyway to link related strings of e-mails into a single continuous conversation?

Joan, most mailers do that. They usually group them by subject line, but sometimes, the dig into the message headerss and follow threads by tags called "Message-ID" and "References". That way, when person A responds to person B's message and changes the subject, you can still see that A's message is a response to B's.

I'm using the gDrive but I can't put music into it. Everytime I try to copy my music from my harddrive, it says that the files are too large.. Has anyone else gotten this? Has anyone gotten it to work?

wow, a $100 bucks a pop on ebay? I have 6, but maybe i should sell them?

Gmail is good stuff. Iniitally I didn' like the lack of control on the user interface. I couldn't make it into what I wanted it to look like. Now I am used to it. Its fast, and reliable. I think its a winner for google.

Rick -- I don't think you can get $100 for them any more. There are 785 current auctions for Gmail accounts on ebay. There is one expiring in 20 minutes with a high bid of $0.10.
