I saw someone wearing them recently with business attire...they were a small fishnet pattern and they were noticeable but seemed very appropriate with the professional outfit the woman was wearing. She didnt look like she was on her way to ShowWorld. I did not make any personal judgements of her based on the appearance of the stockings. |

I stopped wearing them when I realized I could never look as good in them as Tim Curry does. |

I haven't worn them for a while, but when I did I would wear a pair of nude panythose underneath the black fishnet...somehow made me less exposed. I never wore them to the office though... |

Wow, I'm surprised. 4 years ago I wore fishnets to my daughter's baptism and it was the talk of the brunch ("you wore fishnets to church?!!!) but now they even sell them at the Gap--and Talbots no less. I wore them to the grocery store yesterday and wasn't aware that anyone would think I was a hooker!!!! Live and learn on Maplewood online. |

That's kind of like wearing briefs over a thong.
Or under. |

It's the context people! The question was would you wear them to work in a corporate setting! |

Yes, out on a Saturday night - knock yourself out, but it's as work that it specifically irks me. |

Well Lil didn't say the type of field she's in. Advertising or anything creative, yes. (I of course retired 8.5 years ago and used to wear short shorts to work.) |

It's a law firm...tends to be on the conservative side. Definitely not fishnet territory (or apparently it is, but I haven't quite taken to the trend yet...) |

I still think if they're worn with conservative clothes that otherwise suit the office, it's fine. |

I tried to wear them in college, and my boyfriend at the time said, "what's all that crazy looking string crap covering your legs - get it out of the way!" Meanwhile, it was for a halloween costume. I hear that everytime I see them. |

fishnets in a very corporate setting on any woman, ie. finance, etc. is not appropriate. fishnets on pyt's (pretty young things) in a corporate but creative setting, appropriate. age and setting appropriateness should always be practiced by everyone, including men. yes, i am in the fashion industry. |

Yea RR - There's a time in every woman's life to hang up the fishnets, but I think it's a combo of genes and attitude. I couldn't wear fishnets when I was 21 - I get unfortunate "fat bubbles" pushing through the strings -- not a good look. Tina Turner looked good in fishnets at 50 -- I think it's about style and your work situation. |

The coach tag thing just reminded me of another one -- people who leave their day/weekend ski passes attached to their jackets and build up a stockpile of them attached to their zipper by the end of the season. If the pass has expired, REMOVE IT!! Keeping the tags on your jacket doesn't tell others you have an exciting lifestyle, it tells people you're pretentious and you want people to know how often you ski and think you have a particular lifestyle (that you probably only wish you had...) |

OK you guys listen up - I just measured this coach tag and it is 1" x 3/4" - it's completely not noticeable! That's why I forgot it was there. I am busy trying to saw the damn thing off right now! |

When I was a teacher at an independent high school in Brooklyn, I was a chaperone for the senior prom. In class, a group of kids asked me what I was going to wear. I described the outfit, noting that I was wearing fishnet stockings (it was a 1950s-style, crinoline-petticoat dress. This was some 30 pounds ago, in case you know me & are appalled at the thought.) I said, "They're not tacky fishnets. They're discreet fishnets." A young man named Ricky raised his hand. "There's no such thing as bad fishnets," he said, very seriously. That's one of my all-time favorite teaching-in-Brooklyn notes. That, and the time my student Cassie told me I had a "booty like a sistah." ;-) I miss Brooklyn. |
