So the car was stolen on Christmas Eve and two weeks ago this Monday, we learned that it was found. To make a long story short, repairing it doesn't seem to be a big priority with our insurance company. It has sat at the mechanic's for over a week. The insurance company guy frequently does not return our phone calls, nor does he make any effort to make this process go smoothly. The mechanic has called us also wondering why no one has come out to look at the car yet. Needless to say, I'm furious about this, especially since this is our only car. What is the reasonable time that it could take to get this car back? (For the most part, it's in pretty good condition, aside from the steering column being all smashed up.) |

Who is your insurer? Ours has a "pre-approved" list of shops that you don't need to wait for the adjuster. My back end was hit pretty good (45mph by an SUV) and my sedan was in the shop for 10 weeks.

Under the terms of your policy, are you entitled to a loaner while the repairs are being made? |

Who's your insurance company? You should consider switching. First thing Monday you should call up demand to speak to a supervisor and give them hell. |

My insurance company includes some coverage for a rental while my car is in the shop. |

Why don't you tell us who your insurer is. Then we can avoid them. Please name names. |

You should call the State Board of Insurance and ask about regulations on how long it should take for an adjuster to view and authorize for service. I was told by my insurer at the time that they had 7 days but usually tried to get to it within in 4 days. If you do have a rental car that insurance is paying for it is usually capped at 30 days. Given the amount of delay in just seeing the car I would definitely call a supervisor at your insurance company and get them to extend rental coverage. Also you can file a complaint with the State Insurance Board if it comes to that. |

Hopefully, my husband will be calling them today. We've split the duties on this stolen car up the middle because it has been so much work. Our insurance company is Encompass. We have 30 days of rental (car was stolen 12/24), but that expires once the car is recovered, whether you have it back or not. Thanks for the information about how many days they have to get the adjuster out. I didn't know what the time limit was on that. |

Hmmm... I had a really good experience with Encompass claims last year - although my poor car was 'disappeared' for almost two months and they wrote it off long before it ever turned up. Fast, helpful and they paid for a couple of extra days of rental car coverage while I was sorting out the replacement without my even having to ask. |
