On the CBS Sunday Morning show Gov. Codey vowed not to raise income or sales taxes to cover the state's projected $4 billion revenue shortfall. He also indicated that last year's tax rebates were a one-time event tied to the [half] millioaires' tax. So what happens to S1701?

What are "the [half] millioaires' tax" and S1701?

Codey's approval rating is 84%, an amazing number. Is it due to what he has done, his promise to not raise taxes or the fact that people are just so glad to be rid of McGreevey?

The vote to amend S1707 is scheduled for TOMORROW.

As I posted in the Education Section:

I also just received this link through Tempo Magazine email (Tempo is for the New Jersey Music Educator's Association) about Assembly bill A3680 which will ammend S1707. (Wow, do I sound politcal, and I'm really not!!) The vote is scheduled for Monday, January 24th. Please check out the link and send an email to the State House via the website if you're concerned.

S1707 is a bill that caps the percentage a school district can increase it's budget each year. To my understanding, the initial purpose of it was to keep property taxes down. After further review and study, it has been determined that it will actually cause an increase in taxes in the long run. It would also most likely lead to major cuts in music, arts, sports, special education, AP classes and other "non-required" programs. Many of those who have voted for the bill the first time around are changing their minds on this issue. I'm sure you can find plenty of information for and against S1707 through Google.

Strings,

Can you provide a source for the the further review and study determining that S1707 will lead to an increase in taxes?

Thanks,

TomR.
