What a wonderful example of the true leadership in the Democratic Party this Senior Senator Robert Byrd. Did he puposely lead the stay on Condi Rice's appointment because of his roots in the KKK? Or just to show what kind of power he still has? The man is a jerk!

If you don't believe me then listen to him as he recently confused Obama with Osama. How could he do that?

It's sad that this man remains in office, much less politically viable. Democrats, this man is one of your elder statesmen, a leader of your party. And BTW, why is Obama the great hope for so many Democrats. Without researching anything on line, can anyone list his major accomplishments?

1) He was Keynote speaker the Democratic National Convention.

2) He was elected by the widest majority of any candidate running for Senate this past year.

There's two, lets see what you can come up with.

Face, Obama's a liberal---but a really good orator with obvious political skills. He's just a freshman senator in a minority party. It's too much to expect anything out of him two weeks into his tenure as a senator. In other words, its a bit premature to pounce all over his accomplishments. His views, liberal and admittedly so, are worthy of criticism. But hold off on saying he's done nothing. He's a promising young politician for a party in desperate times.

For comparison, can you tell us Ronald Reagan's major accomplishments prior to being elected the first time? Or Goeorge W. Bush's? (Please note, I didn't ask what Dubya had been born into or gotten through family connections; we're looking for accomplishments here.)

As for Obama, there was a great article in the New Yorker last June that summarized his background. The article was written before Jack Ryan dropped out as the Republican candidate (say, I bet you Republicans are real proud of him) and Obama was portrayed as only a contender, not a shoe-in. His accomplishments both as a state legislator and professor at the University of Chicago are wide-ranging. He also got kudos from both parties for genuine efforts at bipartisanship.

Face,
He's being projected as a great leader. You do understand that a projection is a look into the future. Nobody's saying he should have run for President in 2004 or even 2008. What is being said is that he's a skillful orator, charismatic and has an interesting story--leading to the conclusion that he's an up and comer. Do you get it now?

Face,

The Dems are out to humiliate Condi and the Administration. What we are seeing is a party with no direction, no leadership and no ideas. As a result all they can do is attack, attack, attack.

Folks such as Byrd and Kennedy are taking the lead while Kerry continues licking his wounds. Hillary of course, is doing what she has to in order to run in 08. This means avoiding being perceived as a liberal while not totally walking away from the left wingers. If anyone can play this game, a Clinton can.

As far as Obama is concerned. Who knows?

And Boxer, complete clown.

THANK GOD AMERICA IS REPUBLICAN COUNTRY.

Strawman, why is it that the Democratic leadership never offers details to their plan? Kerry spoke of numerous plans he had, yet never provided more than a few buzzwords defining them.

Instead they just criticize and find fault with everything. Check the other thread and see what I mean. How can someone define this as leadership?

And what do you think of Byrd?

"The Dems are out to humiliate Condi and the Administration."

It's shooting fish in a barrel.

Face, Kerry offered more details at every step than Bush did. I compared the websites of both conadidates in late October. Kerry's website contained a lot of detailed information and links to documents with a lot more. Bush's had some similar stuff, but not as much detail, and used a lot more space to slam Kerry than vice versa. Other MOL'ers noted this at the time -- I think Dave was among them.

While stumping, there isn't time to say much more than "I will cut this program by x% and use the money for such-and-such," but Kerry did make plenty of detailed information available. More than Bush did.
