60 years after the liberation of the camps and the UN finally mustered the courage to formally recognize it. And people wonder why Israel disregards this organization? I suppose it's a small bit of progress. http://www.nytimes.com/2005/01/25/international/25holocaust.html |

Not surprising given that anti-semitism is still very much alive and well in the world, including Russia, one of the permament members of the security council: RUSSIA: JEWISH GROUPS UNDER ATTACK A group of legislators from the Communist Party and the nationalist party Motherland sent a letter to Prosecutor General Vladimir V. Ustinov demanding an investigation of Jewish organizations and accusing them of fomenting anti-Semitism. One Motherland member, Aleksandr Krutov, said that "often these people themselves organize provocations." Anti-Semitic incidents, including the beating of a rabbi in Moscow this month, have been on the rise in Russia. Sophia Kishkovsky (NYT) When things go bad, blame the Jews--takes the focus off of the real problems. |
