I just drove by yesterday afternoon and noticed the change in signage. Does anyone know if the owners changed, or if it's just an attempt to revive the restaurant? |

We ate there for the second time on Monday, and it was still called Sampan with the same people working there. We were the only patrons in the restaurant the whole time.

Speaking of Asian, what's the current report on TOA in SO. After much excitement about its opening, we stopped going because of the mediocrity of the menu and food, at a price that just wasn't worth it. It seemed very empty last time we passed by. |

I stopped in today when I noticed the name change. Same people and menu minus the sushi bar. |

When we went to Sampan two weeks ago, we were also the only patrons there. My husband wanted to leave because he felt creeped out. We ended up staying, and our food was excellent. Now that it is Ginger Taste, I don't know if I can convince him to go back. When I drove by it still looked empty, but there were "Grand Opening" signs out. We like the Taste of Asia food, but they don't have high chairs and don't seem very child friendly. I'd love to go for lunch to enjoy their excellent special soup/app/entree for 8.95 (if they still have it). Maybe they should welcome families to increase their business! |

Taste of Asia...we go occasionally, but haven't become enthusiasts. The food is good, but we haven't found dishes that we love, and it is a bit pricy. Bigger issue for us caffeine fiends...how can they fail to have any real tea. I don't drink rose hips, I drink tea. Honestly, their lack of real tea is a turn-off |

They dropped the new menus throughout Millburn today. Similar menu, sans sushi. Big "Grand Opening" sign. Zero patrons tonight. |

My suggestions for owners of Asian restaurants for choosing a name: 1) Name it after a city or region in Asia (eg. Penang, Bombay, Tokyo, etc.) 2) Use repetition (eg. Jin Jin, Ling Ling, etc. People enjoy saying things like this a lot.) 3) Put the word "Happy" or "Lucky" in it. Even better: use both words. 4) Use "Wok" in your name to indicate you don't deliver and "Wall" to let people know you do deliver. |

I'm disappointed about them not serving sushi anymore. We had some creative rolls that were a perfect light supper. Though, if it didn't turn over well, it could be a big $ loss for them I suppose. Also, we certainly were not their best customers, we've been there 3 or 4 times, but it was a good option to have. |

Went there last night and yes indeed the name has been changed. No more sushi and the menu prices seemed to have dropped. |

I hate to say it, but there will always be some difficulty overcoming the IHOP look and feel. I think that, plus the location just doesn't add up to people wanting to go there. The only way they can survive is to have spectacular food at reasonable prices. The former is do-able, but the latter is probably not. It's a sad reality. |

The location is great if only for the fact that they have their own parking lot.

Although I have to say that the IHOP look is very similar to a Thai building.... all it needs is the gold pointy things at all the roof corners and a little creative painting. |

Unfortunately, we got take-out tonight and the recipes were similar, but the food was notably mediocre. They have changed chefs, apparently. We loved the old Sam Pan, for take-out at least, but we won't be going here again. |
