It's an online wine merchant that is supposed to be open to the public but really isn't. |

Finding it isn't going to do you any good. I don't think you can actually buy a bottle of wine there. Has anyone done that? |

it's right down the street from me. it's merely a facade for the store (i.e. sign and window display). no retail biz... not even sure they use the space as a warehouse. totally abandoned. like jeffl stated... i think certain online biznesses must have a physical space to sell online.... even if they don't use the physical space. |

Isn't this illegal? Though I saw something about online business' using 'fake store fronts' in the Ledger this weekend. One place had something like 400 car dealers using the same address. |

Online stores that sell Liquor need to have a location so that they can buy a Liquor License in that town. Most places will use this location as their warehouse, but in this situation the company will “Drop Ship” meaning they don’t have a warehouse at all and have the Distributor send it directly to you. They’re not practicing and shady operation here as far as I know.

What a waste of a perfectly good liquor license. |

Most likely it’s a Package store License, so it’s not like a restaurant could take its place. And if someone was interested they would surely sell and pick up one of the cheap licenses in Newark. The one guy I know who did this ended up making a pretty good amount of money buying up cheap one’s in Urban neighborhoods, moving his warehouse right on the edge of another town and wait for an interested buyer while he sold over the internet. Once the sale of the license went through he’d go find another cheap on.
