We want a family 2 day break at the end of Feb and have never made it that far down the Shore - we have been put off by traffic rumors! Would we be mad to go in Feb....? Will everything be closed?

Thanks

Yes, everything will be closed in Cape May. Maybe go in the other direction up to Newport?

Hmm, not everything I think. Check out the Cape May webstites:

http://www.capemay.com/

I've only been there in the summer (wonderful place!) but I've heard that they have activities in the winter as well. Check it out.

Not everything is closed. We went just before Christmas for 2 days. Many restaurants are only open Thurs-Sat (some Fri/Sat). Shops in Washington mall (outdoor) are open...but not all. Had a delightful lunch at Twinings Tea Room at Emlin Physick house and toured the house. It was cold, but relaxing.

We went once in March or April and had a nice time. Actually, its perfect for trying some of the restuarants that are crazy crowded during the summer - like the Lobster House. We went to see a movie, walked around the boardwalk, went shopping in town, etc. If you have kids that would be interested in the zoo, the Cape May County Zoo is a good one - just check to see if any of it is open.

We rented bikes and biked down to the lighthouse - obviously not going to work if its snowing or still really cold.

My husband and I went to Cape May for a get away a few years ago in Feb. Lots of things were open. Everything on Main st. was open, all the shops. Also there was a huge flea market/ craft show going on. You can take a tour of The Haunted Mansion as well. we ate at an amazing retaurant by the beach, Peter Sheilds, I think was the name. Good Luck

If you go don't miss the Washington Inn (on Washington St). Expensive fine dining, but one of the best restaurants in NJ, IMO. Wine list is great as well.

Went for a romantic Valentine's Weekend at Peter Shield's (its a bed and breakfast too). Had a great time---but then again we didnt bring the kids, so I can't speak to family activity options.

If you go and you're looking for great food, try 410 Bank Street. It has always been our most favorite in Cape May, and gets consitently good reviews in Zagats. We tried the Washington Inn a couple of times and were never really that impressed, although it seems most people are.

410 Bank St. (bet. Broad St. & Lafayette Ave.) Cape May, NJ, 08204 (609) 884-2127

Call ahead as they may not be open this time of year. If I recall correctly it's BYO, so check on that too.

Enjoy. Cape May is a beautiful place.
